Uh, oh. He's at it again.
Mr.Midlo is putting ceramic tile in the two baths on the second floor. I do not plan to leave my office until he is done, so I will probably 1)starve to death 2) pee myself.

:scared:

I need the ceramic tile in redone in my bathroom and the big hole from the leak into the kitchen needs to be fixed as well.

Hang in there Midlo - just 10 more hours to go

2. He's very handy, which is wonderful, but Dear God, he gets these
bees in his bonnet about a project and the entire world comes to a screeching halt.

He just told me when he is done with the bathrooms, he wants to retile the backsplash in the kitchen.

Kill. Me. Now.

3. No no! Send him here instead!
Mr. MG is the opposite--he wants to do stuff and thank goodness is also handy, but his projects take months, if not YEARS. I would burn many offerings of thanks to the gods if he'd friggin' FINISH something already.

Right now his office is half drywalled and has been for the 2+ years we've lived here--the rest is bare plaster and lath and insulation; the plastic sheeting in the tub area has also been up for more than two years awaiting a tile job--but I informed him I'm hiring someone for that; and for the past couple of months there's been dust an inch thick in my dining room because he's gutting the powder room. I also try to ignore the unfinished kitchen wall behind the fridge and beside the counter that butts up against the back wall--about a year ago we ran out of wainscoting and he never bought more.

This shit is wreaking havoc with the house's chi.

Which isn't a bad thing when it is over and done with.

30. I know it, he knows it...
He can't be bothered to do it. Instead, he pulls off chunks of drywall "carefully." Silly rabbit. Still makes dust. I did insist he seal himself into his office when he was tearing down plaster, though--that's a whole nuther Godzilla of a mess. He was good enough to cover the doorway and climb in and out of the window (we have the tall ones that are about a foot off the ground).

16. No! send him here!
I am a single mom and I have no one who can help me with handyman stuff. My older son has aspergers and isn't.. coordinated enough... it's a screamer to try to get something done with him. my younger son and his friends do help me sometimes, but I have a hard time working with them because I don't know how to make things work and why bother when I then have to pay someone to do things correctly?

I will send him back with all his parts intact and untouched. promise.

My husband is a wonderful man and is extremely handy, but he will only fix something in a dire emergency-- eg, toilet overflowing and contents raining downstairs into kitchen!

Well, to be fair, he HAS painted several rooms since we moved in 14 years ago, and refinished a couple of floors, but he, like yours, often leaves things undone. He painted the downstairs foyer and stairwell, but in the process, removed the wo. . I'd rather have them painted white than have them missing. There has also been a hole above our shower since forever! But if the tub was stopped up he'd be right on it.

We went to couple's therapy years ago and decided that instead of my nagging him, we should price out some of these jobs. It worked in one instance, but, in general, getting other people to do this work is way too expensive.

31. Mr. MG doesn't do molding
We've owned three houses, all of which needed work, and he has never, EVER put the shoe molding back on. None of that "finish work" ever gets done.

He's big on starting many projects simultaneously, too, until I instituted a new household rule: NO more "destructo" till he completes some "constructo". It's making him nuts, but it's keeping his "rip it down because that part's fun" urge in check.

We go back and forth about whether to hire jobs out, and the price always stops us. He really wants to try tiling, but I've drawn the line at that--our bathroom tile is going to be done by a professional (if I can find one--they're all booked--must be everyone's feeling that spring cleaning/redecorating urge). I promised him he can play with tiling in the mudroom--and that stage is WAY far in the future--right now he's ripping down the drywall and tut-tutting over the crappy job the previous owners did. He may forget by then!

25. Audio Al is outside pressure washing the driveway. He shampooed the
rugs over the weekend.

We put our house on the market a few days ago, and it's never looked better.

The most amazing thing he has ever done was to feed a cable line from a basement up through the first level and into the second level of our Boston home. Wow! Electrical engineers rock. Maybe not as showy as the performers I dated, but dedicated, tried and true. It's a joy to watch him work, but it's hard to work WITH him because he kind of orders me around and won't listen to my suggestions sometimes.

The only thing I remember he couldn't do was fix a typewriter. He wasn't trained to do that... but give him any electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling -- he's just amazing.

Oh, yes. He's completely faithful and sleeps here every night.

13. Yup. We had them change over the stained trim in the kitchen to
gloss white, so that took a long time. And, changing colors in each room except the dining room meant additional coats.

Worth it, though. They patched and repaired so well, the first floor looks brand new.

re-doing the kitchen.

I returned from my sales job one day to find the kitchen completely disassembled, the refrigerator moved to a new position, and my dearest was on the floor with his drop-light, figuring out how to change the old kitchen design to a new one.

I'm liable to come home on any day and find him involved in some project, usually focused around computers, plumbing, cable, or simple car repair. However, he does not cook. Nevertheless, he's a keeper.

Thanks for the beef stew recipe. I did some combining and it was delicious!

I did want to ask you -- why don't you use coconut oil? It's delicious and, although it is a saturated fat, lauric acid has been proved to give many healthy benefits. Coconut-based civilizations around the world have used it exclusively for centuries, and they have no heart disease. Unfortunately, it looks like white grease when you open the canister. But it melts at 76 degrees for just a few seconds in the microwave. Sometimes it congeals, but it still melts in your mouth. I do love its flavor, and prefer it to many other oils.

Peace, love and happiness,

RL in OR

Sorry for the positioning.

So, how's your day going, CreekDog? I lived in a one-bedroom apartment with one bathroom from 1962 to 1969. That was fun, especially the months when my daughter was born. I had to wash her in the kitchen sink.

201 East 28th Street, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10021 (Not sure of ZIP.)

Daughter turns 40 on October 9th of this year.

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen (cooking beef stew right at the moment.)

for what it's worth, i wash my cat in the kitchen sink.

There was an Animal Planet special on cat shows. It was fantastic!

So different from the dog shows I have attended and seen on TV.

make sure he knows to shore up/stiffen up the floor using properly fastened backerboard and finished joints, or you'll be dealing with cracked grout, and quite possibly cracked tiles. 2nd floor tile jobs can be a real future headache if the prep-work isn't made a priority.
