My dog Reba died recently
She was sick with a lung tumor and likely other tumors, and her legs just gave out one day. So I had to put her to sleep. Reba gave me almost 12 years of pure joy, and I could not have imagined a better dog. I'm already battling what hopefully is just a sleep problem, and now this. Reba will be missed. I have a little memorial to her on her hill that she liked in the back yard, and her vet sent a really nice card with lots of signatures from the medical center.

It's terrible to lose a much-loved furbaby - they never live long enough, but every day with them gives us such joy. RIP Reba.

3. Aw, mvd.
I am sorry to hear this.

When Bonnie died five years ago, the vets sent us flowers. How nice of both Bonnie's and Reba's vets to do that.

5. I've had my pup for about 15 years now, and I'll be devastated to lose him.
He has also been a pure joy all these years. Through many deaths in the family and hardships, he has always been especially snuggly and caring of me during the hard times. They just know, ya know?

I got him a surgery on his ears last summer that cost me $1800, although he had to suffer for six months before I could save the down payment. Gawd, he is so much happier now, even though the surgery made him deaf. He thinks he is a pup again!

Sorry you lost your pup. I'd be devastated. *sniff*

Do you have pics?

16. I'm so sorry.
I know how tough it is. When we had two of our dogs pass both vets sent very nice cards. We had our Belgian Malinois cremated and we still have a her remains in a very nice cedar box to remember her. She was very special as was the other one which was a stray that had such a great personality but unfortunately was poisoned somehow.

I know what it's like to lose a pet you've had for such a long time. It was sadly her time to go and I know she's in a better place and you'll be reunited with her one day. Your tribute was very moving and indicative of how much you loved her and, just as you were fortunate to have her as a pet, she was fortunate to have you as an owner.

May Reba rest in peace and my thoughts, prayers, deepest sympathies and condolences are extended to you and your family:hug:

21. for Reba
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of Reba and ask for courage to bear it. We bring you our thanks for Reba who lived among us and gave us freely of her love. We commit our friend and companion Reba into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

38. Hi, CabalPowered
I don't think I'm ready yet, but I hope to get one sometime when I've had more time to grieve and I'm not so tired from my sleep problem. Labradoodles are cute, a nice size, and don't shed, so maybe I'll get one of those.

27. I'm very sorry.

I'm preparing myself for the same situation with one of my cats, Gray. The tumor on his lower back is growing very noticable, it's inoperable because it's wrapped around the lumbar spine, and it's interfering with his use of his back leg and sometimes it interferes with his ability to use the litter box.
:(

But it's not time to put him to sleep yet because he's still managing to function, and he's still happy and playful and enjoying his life. He's not refusing to eat. He's not hiding. He's not irratable. He has none of the signs yet that it's time.

I am very sorry about Reba. I hope she had a huge amount of love and fun while she was with you. I hope you have wonderful memories and beautiful pictures.

32. I am so very sorry...This poem helped me when my Buffett passed
Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peek.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

36. She was lucky to have had you to give her a happy life.
It's sad to hear of your loss. I have an old girl that's 19 and, as I'm sure you know, she's a constant and loyal companion. I fear this will probably be her last Spring. Dogs have such short lifespans, and when they get old they get old in a hurry.

The loss of a beloved pet can be devastating. I hope you're feeling "better" just as soon as possible. I don't know if this is a good thing to say at this time, but, in my own case, I'm glad she'll be going first. You know how it is with a dog, when they give you their love it really is unconditional. Their whole world revolves around you. I'll someday be going through the same pain as you, and as bad as that will be, I'm glad it will be me and not her. I couldn't bear the thought of her facing her world turned upside down alone in her old age.

My sincere sympathy to you.
