"Dancing with the Stars" question
http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/08/tv_realty_tv/main4002722.shtml

Priscilla Presley scored a 22 after the judges knocked off a few points because of a technical mistake. Her partner was supposed to be dragging her in one move, but when her feet came off the floor the move became a lift - a no-no in competition.

Are the dancers never allowed to do lifts on the show?

If so, why not?

1. no they are not-
except, I think, in the final show, when anything goes.

This rule was made after the first season, and I believe, is because not all of the amateur dancers are physically able to do lifts and they didn't want to give anyone an unfair advantage.

2. also there may be a safety issue with lifts
I've gone to enough dance competions and have seen the same rules. They do not want people at a certain level doing lifts because they are physically risky.

6. Except they can jump off the top part of the stage
onto the lower part in high heels. That seems far more dangerous than being lifted one inch off the floor.

Not saying you're wrong. They may claim it's a safety issue. But if that's the reasoning, they're stupid.

3. The only question I have about "Dancing with the Stars" is this
why the *F* are people still watching this show.

I hate to say it, it was almost an idea that even I dug because I like ballroom dancing. But when they replaced traditional ballroom music with musaz-versions of bad pop songs - well they lost me at hello!

5. I'm a dance junkie
Although alot their music is annoying, I've also got no real love for ballroom music..I have danced to a lot of non-traditional music (country is what I learned to dance to)

4. If I understand it right
It depends on the rules of the dance style they are doing at the time. One dance style may not have lifts in it and doing a lift would get them penalized for doing it.

7. I think it depends on the dance they are doing. In some lifts are allowed.
