Super sized kitteh to be put up for adoption...

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has put one of its recent additions on a diet.

Alice the cat came into the shelter weighing 26 pounds. Dr. E.J. Finocchio said the cat should weigh nine to 12 pounds. Alice has already lost three pounds in the ten days she’s been in the RISPCA’s care. When she’s down to a healthy weight, she will be put up for adoption.

Veterinarians said animals that are overweight can face health problems.

What a sweet kitteh!

I can imagine the strain on Alice's body, with that much extra weight. My Murphy was overweight when we got him, and is much happier in his now-svelte form. I hope that when she's back down to a healthier size, that she finds a loving, happy home. She deserves it. :)

4. We have a cat like that, our Tonka is just a burly cat
he's losing weight the last couple years though, he's getting so old, but he's still a big cat. Tonka has a son who's name is also Cosmo! and Cosmo is almost 20 pounds, he lives with my in-laws.

We did have a round (I mean fat) cat once though, Jake who we inherited from my Dad, he even had diabetus! He seemed very unhealthy but he lived to 18 anyway.

6. Oh, then the cat's fasting...
If they leave it on that diet, the poor thing will starve to death.

9. Wow... My cat was 14 pounds when he was supposed to be 12,
and even then he looked pretty chunky. How a cat could be this grotesquely overfed is beyond me.
