My cat is so freaking smart
She loves trying to pick up her toys with her paws. It's like she knows she doesn't have thumbs, so she compensates for that with her claws. Damnedest thing I've ever seen.

What amazing things do your cats do?

1. We have an outdoor cat that can open the back door and get in herself...
she works her paw under the storm door and pulls until it comes open, then she'll sit between the two doors for awhile, then jump and kick with her back feet to push the storm door open wide and grabs the handle to the inside door with her front paws and voila! She can't do this on any other exterior door because they have standard doorknobs, the back door has latch/handle that is sideways kind of like this one:

.

If we don't want her in the house we have to use the deadbolt.

6. It's one of those tinsel-y pom-poms...
...they're about $3.50 for four, if they're called cat toys, but you can get a big bag of them for the same price at any craft store.

(But yes, that is my Xmas tree still up in February. I just re-decorated it for Valentine's Day since it wasn't dropping needles yet. It finally got tossed last weekend.)

5. Mine's a fetcher too
She's kinda OCD about certain toys. She loves elastic hair bands and will fall all over herself chasing them when I shoot them across the room. Right now, she's obsessed with a plastic milk carton tab :eyes:

4. Mine takes pins out of the pin cushion with her mouth and drops them
on the floor. So I've hidden the pin cushion. She also will put her paw into the cat dish and grab some food and eat it off her paw. Bad cat. But I love her.

7. When I ask the beagle if she wants to go out,
she goes to the window to check the weather first. If it's raining, the answer is no.

Critters are amazing!

used to fish corn flakes out of your bowl with her claws and then eat them like they were on a fork.

12. One of my cats trained me to get up
In the morning, I'm always dragging myself out of bed - but in the past few months, my cat Buddy starts purring loudly and walking on me, every few minutes until I get up (he's about 20 lbs) - until he started doing this, I'd roll out of bed around 7:45 on a good day. Now, I'm up at 6:30 every day. And now, Buddy gets fed promptly at 6:30 every morning.

19. Grayson, my male cat
pulls the insoles out of my rain boots. I put them back in. The next time I walk past, they're out again. These boots stand 13" high. I don't know how he is able to reach that far. I also don't understand his fascination with them.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 10:20 PM by havocmom
When I called him upstairs for supper, the cat scooped out paw-fuls of dry cement from the bag and tried to continue his work while he ate. It was pretty amazing.

23. One of mine opens my dresser drawer to look for socks to play with.
But he likes only the fuzzy ones. He digs around in the drawer, scattering socks on the floor, until he finds the ones he wants. Then he takes those socks downstairs and leaves them on the living room floor, damp with drool.
