Would you hire an interviewee named Onan?

I'd be apt to think of him as a hands-on manager.

Some Thoughts on the Science of Onanism, by http://www.ralphmag.org/onan.html">Mark Twain

Two types: those who do, and those who lie about it.

I like my employees to be straight shooters.

P.S. Open-minded is a bonus.

5. I went to tanker school at Fort Knox with a guy named Onan.
Took a lot of guff from the drill sergeants, I can tell you.

9. It was his family name.
As a result, it was on all of his uniforms. Poor guy; if it had been his given name, nobody would have ever known. In rough-and-tumble all-male environments like military training companies, first names are rarely used.

11. OMG...
... poor bastard.

I was Navy, briefly, until DODMERB finally got around to reading my ROTC application.

Naval knowledge. Rocks.

How'd you like Kentucky? I have lots of family in the eastern half. Knox is further west, if memory serves.

17. Yeah, the backwoods, fuckwad, cousin-fucker, hillbilly, high-and-tight,
King-James-version Snuffy Smith asshole-types ALL knew who Onan was and what onanism was. I tell you, if the South hadn't lost the Civil War, and had become their own country, the U.S. Army would not be able to have drill sergeants.

20. Both. Isn't everyone now?

No. But seriously: both.

And yes, both sides are full of some characters.

Ask him if he grew up in or near Pike County. I have all kinds of stories, including my great-grandfather: moonshining superintendent of the school system, during Prohibition.

I could hide out there for years on end, never sleeping on the same cousin's couch twice in a year.

He simply pulled out because he hated his brother and didn't want to have kids in the brother's name
