I hate spam

so I'm on myspace, and I get this pop up saying that if my computer has been running slower than usual, I may have viruses or spyware...my computer is not running slowly, so I pressed cancel.....up pops the scan anyway....saying I have been infected with a big sign to CLICK HERE,,,,,

I closed the window, did I do the right thing?

1. It's a popup advertising a way to get rid of popups...

yeah, I'd say you did the right thing.

And the next right thing to do would be to get a browser that blocks the popups for ya. :)

2. Don't you have a MacBook?

If you are using Safari make sure you have pop-up blocking enabled. Safari--> Block Pop-up Windows.. Make sure that has a check-mark next to it.

4. If you are using 10.5 I would suggest installing....

It won't work on 10.4. But it will block almost 99% of the ads out on the tubes if you are on 10.5.*.

7. Never click anything inside a pop-up window.

Cancel buttons are often a trick to get you to click on their link. Close the window by clicking the X at the upper right corner or "Alt-F4" on your keyboard.
