I think my husband and I have a problem, an addiction really
we counted the chairs in our house, and we have at least 34. and that doesn't include the couches.

with 3 people in our family, that's 11 chairs each. I can only sit in one - maybe two - at once.

when did we get all these? how come we can't say no?

1. The bad thing is, if you go to a meeting of Chair Collectors Anonymous
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 12:01 PM by Oregonian
they won't provide folding chairs -- you'll just have to stand for the entire meeting. Wouldn't want to feed the addition, you know.

6. Well, never specifically "chairs"
But I'm sure there are meetings for addicted collectors of "stuff" in general. :)

2. are you my sister in law?
It's only my sister-in-law and her husband. They have a pool and hot tub outside but they don't entertain except for when the rest of us gather for a family event. The number of chairs they own is unbelievable! It's as though they might feel the need to sit in any of 50 places and can't move a chair. Three patio sets. Multiple benches. Pool chairs and chaise lounges. Two multi-person swings and a single person swing. A gazebo with chairs. A bar with stools. Miscellaneous wrought iron chairs. A huge-ass picnic table with benches (I actually LOVE this since it's big enough for the whole family!) The number of chairs has become a running joke. And sadly, I'm sort of obsessed with seeing how many they add each time we're there.

3. oh my god! the lawn chairs! I forgot the lawn chairs!
so now the number is at 39! uuggghhh...

if there is anything good about this, it's that I can honestly say that we got most of them free.

5. Do you have a sectional too?
They have a huge sectional! And a dining room for 8. Kitchen table and chairs. Flordia room with 2 sofas and a couple of chairs. THERE ARE ONLY TWO OF THEM!

'Course, I've never figured the chair/person ratio in my own house...

7. where would i fit in? . . .
just counted here - there are 9 total and just myself in this house.
(that includes 3 chairs at the breakfast counter plus a child's rocking chair made for my mother over 80 yrs. ago)

also - do the toilets count as chairs as well? if so, then i have 11 *seats* in the house.

8. okay, 9 is not far off from 11 per person
maybe you have a problem too...

although, I think 9 chairs for one household is better than 39!

9. Not including the couches?
I have two poofy chairs, two straight backed chairs, 10 folding chairs, 2 office chairs, and at least 10 stacking outside chairs. For a total of 26. For a one person household. Of course, the vast majority of those live in the shed or the closets. I loves me some folding chairs! After all, what if you're going to have a big party?!

I just have a weakness for large parties, which I have at least three times a year. :D

18. Just a warning...
your addiction will get worse before it gets better. If you've got the same craving that I had, you will find yourself oddly attracted to church pews and rows of old art deco theater seats. Don't fret, after your living room is so full that your friends start calling it the chapel, once you've hosted enough (too many) popcorn & movie parties, and attempted to vacuum around all those rows of seats, you're want will begin to wane.;)

21. that's incredible!
think of the party we could throw if we combined our chairs! we could rent a hall and have a grand movie night!

now a question for you - is there a good reason why you have so many chairs (such as you build and sell chairs) or are you just addicted like us?

27. I have a big 150-yr.-old Victorian house. My dining room set has 10 chairs and I have a library and
sitting room plus a living room. All the bedrooms are 'suites' with sitting areas.
