It appears that my company now blocks DU.
I can't get this site to load unless I go through a proxy server. x(

What a @#$%&! pain in the ass.

1. My dear ThomCat!
Well, that's icky...

What if you brought in your own laptop?

Of course, that's pretty awkward...

Giant pain in the ass, indeed!

I'm sorry, sweetie...

2. I'd have to buy a laptop, and then haul it around.
:(

This will require some thoughts...

3. Exactly...and that might well be too much trouble...
OTOH, we'd sure miss you during the day, sweetie...

Or you could buy one, and leave it at work, if you have a secure place!

12. Bringing in a laptop won't help on the firewall level
That's all set on where the network connects to the internet.

Unless, of course, you have your own, wireless, service...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

4. My company quit over a year ago
and tracks all internet activity

so I'd be careful going through a proxy server at work, if they are tracking, they may use that to punish you if you have an internet policy.

Why DU?

probably time spending issues

or politics is a possibility, but I bet the other side's sites are blocked too, but it would be an interesting experiment.

Now GET BACK TO WORK :P

:hi:

10. Given that I work late every day,
work occassional weekends, and work through holidays I certainly hope it's not a time issue. But we'll see.

11. I have no idea what to do now.
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 08:28 PM by ThomCat
Taking many short breaks is part of how I deal with pain. It's sort of like pain-induced ADD. I can't concentrate on any one thing for very long.
:(

I hope you never disappear.

13. Yes. Other people take smoke breaks.
I take internet breaks. If I can take my breaks at my desk I can multitask and keep working. If I have to get up and go somewhere to take a break they'll get less out of me.

17. Mine does too, Thom.
We can commiserate!

I can only get the front page... no discussion groups. I never checked to see if any other political sites are blocked, but I can still get Huffington and dailyKos. Strange!

19. I think it's because DU contains the word "democratic"!
Our tech guy is a real winger. He probably doesn't know about those other two places. I can also get buzzflash. (shhhh!) He probably blocked everything that says "democrat" in its address.

21. What about the freepers site? Drudge?
To be honest - I think that using company property - computer and telephones is not the best idea in the world. First, there is the issue of, yes, using company property for personal purposes and, second, they can track your activities.

I worked at a company which was going through a down cycles so it was easy to fire all the ones who visited porno sites.
