What should I do for New Years?
For some reason being alone on New Years bothers me a lot more than being alone on Thanksgiving. So I have a feeling I should go somewhere but I have no idea really what I should do. For the past few years I have ended up at a friend's house. But I have sort of fallen out of touch with her so I don't want to call today or tomorrow hoping for an invite. I can't decide if I should go see a band if there's a decent one playing somewhere. Part of me doesn't want to brave the lunatic crowds on New Years. Any suggestions? I could go buy a bottle of sparkling wine and drink it by myself but that doesn't sound like much fun either, although for once I am optimistic about the new year. I have a lot going on. I will (hopefully, barring disaster) finish my Masters degree this semester. AND I will turn 40 this year but I will graduate before then so hopefully the feeling of accomplishment will override whatever depression the birthday will cause. What worries me most about my birthday is the fact that my lunatic family has a penchant for surprises on major birthdays. I hate surprises. I am thinking of telling them I will be out of town on my birthday, even if I won't be.

1. Nobody has any ideas really?
I know I sort of rambled on a little there.

Kicking because I am bored. I have work to do but am procrastinating as usual.

I don't know- I must be getting old as I don't like braving the crowds and drunks on New Years anymore. It is too much trouble and people get too nuts.

You could always put a call out on Craigslist- I see guys all the time looking for a date for one night and if you meet him in a public place it would be safe.

Good luck- let us know what happens and Have a GOOD NEW YEAR!

edited to add- yeah- I just looked on my Denver Craiglist and there are several guys looking for a New Years Date. I don't know, it could be the worst night of your life, but you might have fun!

The last I checked it was only big cities. I actually met someone on New Years once. It was fun. We dated for a few months. I guess I am leaning towards staying in.

Actually I found my city on Craig's list. SHould be worth some amusement if nothing else.

4. oh, yeah CL is amusing, if nothing else!
I love perusing the "best of Craigslist column" over on the left- there are some really funny things that people write.

And if you do stay in, there is nothing wrong with that. New Years is definitely one of those overrated holidays that never lives up to the hype. I am going up to my guys house and we may go to a party that his friends are having- or we might just stay in. Actually, I will have to take a nap if I want to stay up that late!
