12. what about when she said, "here's a bigger shovel"
to use on the guy arguing against whacking with a 2x4?

OMG. But I'm a three stooges fan, so that just appealed to me. Moe is my hero.

2. Those silly animal lovers LM and flvegan.
Always worried about other sentient beings. And I thought this was a progressive site.

3. Flvgan isn't playing fair with the guy he's arguing against
hitting a cat with a 2x4 in training would be wrong as a training method, but that is not what the OP was advocating. he was saying if you are attacked that's some advice to follow. but some of the "good guys" are making him out to have advocated it as a training method, which he did not do.

i didn't like it. still don't.

argue against actual stated positions not caricatures of positions. that wisdom is not being followed, progressiveness notwithstanding.

4. Sorry, I'll take flvegan's word about animals over just about anyone's.
He's a dog rescuer. Pit bulls in fact. He knows of what he speaks. I don't know the other guy, but I'll place my money on flvegan.

6. read the posts, i'm not arguing against flvegan's opinions
Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 12:39 PM by CreekDog
i'm arguing that he's misrepresenting the opinion he is arguing against. it's all there on the thread.

in fact in one of my responses that is my main criticism of flvegan's argument, not his actual opinion, but that he made a strawman out of his opponent's argument.

that's where he was wrong.

i am not questioning his credentials as an animal lover/protector, but his lack of fairplay against another human he is arguing with.

13. This is a guy who also talks about "breaking" horses
Sorry - I've worked with and trained horses all my life and anyone who talks about "breaking" them, I want nothing to do with.

On the other hand, if I want help or advice about animals, I wouldn't hesitate to ask flvegan.

The guy's got no cred, as far as I'm concerned.

14. The guy may have no creds, but what CreekDog wrote is correct.
flvegan's going after him as if he suggested that 2 x 4s were a good training method, and that's not what the poster wrote. It's a silly fistfight at this point.

:)

and if i so much as hold 1 finger up, my cat winces, all 15 pounds of him.

of course, he's afraid of his own toys and hisses at them.

23. Well, considering where you live, you could have had the opportunity
to try out various methods of tiger-fighting recently, not that anyone would recommend such a thing.

26. I've been to that zoo so many times as a kid, not interested in going again
Plus, it's always about 30 degrees over there. I swear any tropical animal must hate it.

24. That's the difference between living with nature, and forcing it to do your will.
A lesson that most non-native Americans have yet to learn. Good on you!

17. Oh for fuck's sake!
The post that prompted the 2x4 comment -

Those innocent visitors and the one that was mauled to death. Horrible. That animal is beautiful but I can't imagine something that big coming at me.

The reply:

If you ever do, find the biggest 2x4 you can and knock the shit out of it.
That was basically my first ever lesson on what to do with a lion that misbehaves with the addendum use your fist if you don't have a 2x4. I promise. You or I will not hurt the cat, If you're lucky, you'll get his attention.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that someday if I'm out hiking with my dog and a mountain lion jumps me OR my dog I have something to whack it with - in order to save myself or my pet. Oh but - I suppose I should just keep us all locked up in the house instead of antagonizing the mountain lion by being outside in the first place. :eyes:

5. I'm just glad that nothing more important is going on in the world.
If we were on the verge of economic collapse, or our civil liberties were being eroded away, or major world leaders were being assassinated in volitile parts of the world, then this argument would seem frivilous and stupid!
