what one book and one CD would you take. (can't choose the bible or the bible in CD form)

I would choose Aztec by Gary Jennings and Boston Third Stage

6. It has whatever it takes to play the CDs
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Island_Discs

This has been a chat show on BBC radio since 1942 (back when it started, the discs were gramophone records, and they specified a wind-up gramaophone and an infinite supply of needles) - the guest chooses 8 songs, including naming the one they'd have if they could only have one, a book (apart from the bible or appropriate substitute, and the complete works of Shakespeare - I suppose they thought too many British peopel would choose that, so it would be boring), and a luxury.
