It isa letter to the editor that was printedin a newspaper: an opinion piece. Whether it is the opinion of the person who sent it in is irrelevant. Anyway, the snopes piece (at least the way I read it) did not confirm that the person who sent it actually disowned the message. They said that they were unable to contact her. Maybe she came up with this hoax story because of the controversy. Who knows? Who cares? They are still out there.
