My pregnant co-worker was told by her manager that
her clothes were too tight :wtf:

It was suggested that she perhaps take this opportunity to go buy more maternity clothes - oh and a darker color might help. :banghead:

What the hell is wrong with people?????

3. It's a she - and the bizarre thing is that there
are two pregnant women. One of them is so tiny to begin with that the smallest of maternity clothing falls right off of her. Her shirts are tight across the belly, but she always looks nice. The other one is barely starting to show and the manager took this comment to the two of them.

The crazy thing is that one of them is a lawyer in her native country and will be attending a US law school next year to get a US law degree. How stupid can you get?

I'm thinking boss is a head-case.

5. Whaaaattt???
Geebus, it seems like everything we made advancements in, is going/has gone right down the tubes.

Maybe her boss would like her to quit and stay home so no one sees that she's pregnant. :grr:

7. It is disgusting!
The two women are from another country and one of them approached me today asking me if it was okay that they told her that - she said "They say I cannot show my belly"

13. The whole thing is just making me angrier and angrier
as the day progresses. I like both of these women very much, and I am sure they are thinking of staying home with their babies after giving birth, but they have both told me that they feel they are being treated differently from other people.

GRRRR

8. Yeah, I got that too, but from a coworker, not a boss
She was always a bit bonkers to begin with, so I should have expected the crazy to come out this way. Still, she took me by surprise.

I was just--JUST--beginning to show, but I was waaayyy too early for maternity clothes. I was wearing a long khaki skirt and a tailored shirt (untucked). I walked past her desk, and she blurted out, "Whoo--you'd better find some other clothes and cover up!" I paused and went..."Whaa...?" (I wasn't "exposed" in any way.) And she said, "You're looking a little big, there." I said, trying to joke, "Yeah, that's to be expected. And I'm only going to get bigger from here!" And she answered, "That's not something you want to flaunt." Finally I got totally aggravated and exclaimed, "***, I'm PREGNANT, not FAT."

She didn't let it go, though, just kept doing her little "I'm just sayin'..." dance.

Ugh. I hated that chick. :banghead:

11. Really, what the heck is wrong with people????
I can't believe your co-worker said that and good for you for telling her "I'm pregnant, not fat". There are soooo many overweight people at my job who wear clothing that I consider a little small or risque for their size, but who the hell am I to say anything?

17. The ironic bit is
The ironic bit is she was pretty overweight but always wore clothes that were WAY too small for her. (She said some celebrity tip she had read was to wear pants one size too small so the fabric "holds you in". Guess what--it doesn't work.) She always looked bad. And I can freely say that, being several (ahem) pounds overweight myself, pre- and post-pregnancy.

What I realized after observing her behavior, though, is that some people have a pregnancy phobia. Nobody likes to talk about it, because everyone is supposed to love and respect pregnancy, but some folks really have a problem being around pregnant women. It makes them uncomfortable but they can't put their finger on why exactly. They substitute the notion that "those women are fat", but that doesn't quite do it. They want them to "ew, cover that up" to pretend that pregnancy doesn't exist.

These people have REAL PROBLEMS--they can't cope with a natural process. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so incredibly boorish.

24. They don't want to be reminded that they are mammals.
And mammals have mammary glands to feed their young and undergo internal fertilization and gestation. They want to feel superior to animals.

I bet they'd fall over if you told them they have just about all the same bones, muscles, nerves and organs as a RAT. Except for the tail, and we have a tailbone.

14. Was she wearing skin-tight clothes?
Personally, I'd tell any employee wearing overly tight clothes to put on something else. Certain body parts should just not be visible in a work environment. And, guys, I'm talking about you, too.

short falls off her shoulders and shows her boobs - so take your pick - tight across the belly or boobs?

22. That *is* unbelievable. But, seriously, in *every* place I've ever worked,
liability was the number one concern. Not safety. Not employee productivity. Liability first. Who made this person a manager without making her learn about risk management? (Not to mention basic human decency.)

23. I left the department that this is all happening in back in September
and it was the best decision ever. Since then, the manager we had was promoted to another managerial opening, and they promoted the senior person in that department to take over. Had I not already left, I would have quit if I had to deal with her as a manager. She has absolutely NO people skill whatsoever - as evidenced by her comments.

30. That's the way things go there
as one who knows what asshats the managers where we work can be ... Some people could set the place on fire and no one would say a word but other people seem to be breaking the rules just by showing up. There always seems to be a target or two that catches the wrath of the manager until they make them miserable enough to quit or nervous enough they screw up and get fired, or they find another target that is easier to make miserable.

If she just hangs in there they will move on to another target soon. :banghead:

25. ah, sounds like a cultural issue
but it still seems like a review of workplace policy is in order...

How do pregnant working women dress in her country?

I've never heard of anyone complaining about maternity attire. I could see if someone were wearing a belly shirt, or something, but otherwise...

27. I was talking to her about it and
she told me more than I had learned earlier. As far as it being a cultural thing - she is from Brasil and I think that pregnant women dress the same way an american woman would.

Anyhow - it turns out that she told the manager her problem with buying the maternity clothes - that the smallest sizes still fall off her (mind you - she is 30 weeks pregnant and definitely has a belly). Manager responded with something along the lines of "poor you - even pregnant you are so small" :wow:

That's the only thing I can think of that wouldn't be begging for a lawsuit, and it still might qualify.
