Winchester Cathedral and Mellow Yellow. They won't go away. And I'm a classical music kind-of-guy! What the hell did those songs mean, anyway? Oh bodie-oh-doh ...

2. Mellow Yellow
I think that old Donovan song was about the rumor that you could get stoned by smoking dried banana peels. An uncle of mine tells me he played a prank way back when on his parents (my grandparents). He made sure they had heard that rumor, then left burned banana peel in an ashtray in his room for them to find.

5. Gawd, I loved them both! Traded "California Dreamin'" for "Mellow Yellow"
On the 45; a metaphor for my life, and the bad decisions I have made. Winchester Cathedral, You're bringin' me down. At least, we had. . . Hot Town, Summer in the City, Back of My Neck Gettin' Dirt and Gritty! Ah, those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end. (Yep, I know.)

6. There Is No Cure For "Mellow Yellow", Sir
The other will run its course in due time, but that one will haunt you for a week a least....

Try meditating on "Needles and Pins" and "Red Rubber Ball"; these may bring some relief.

24. Many years ago, Dave Berry wrote a hilarious column about
having "It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want to" stuck in his head. I was attending a teachers' seminar in Hawaii at the time, and we passed it around, with the Japanese seminar instructors wondering what the hell we were in hysterics about.

"I love him, I love him, I love him
and where he goes I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow..."

The rest is now stuck in your head.

By the way, Peggy March had an adult career in Europe and Japan. I saw her on Japanese TV, singing in Japanese, in the late 1970s.

MELLOW YELLOW

I'm just mad about Saffron,
Saffron's mad about me
I'm a-just mad about Saffron,
She's just mad about me.
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow.

I'm just mad about Fourteen,
A-Fourteen's mad about me
I'm a-just a-mad about a-Fourteen,
She's just mad about me.
They call me mellow yellow
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow.

Born high forever to fly,
Wind-a velocity nil.
Born high forever to fly,
If you want your cup I will fill.
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow.
He's so mellow, mellow fellow

Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze.
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase.
They call it mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow.

You, ah, Saffron, yeah,
I'm just mad about her
I'm a-just a-mad about a-Saffron,
She's just mad about me.
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow Quite rightly
They call me mellow yellow.

Oh so mellow, oh so mellow, oh so mellow.

32. Speaking of bad '60s pop...

...here's a recent posting from the Usenet group, rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1960s. And no, I didn't write it!

Here's my picks for the worst top ten pop chart hits of each year (Billboard - USA) for this decade.

1960 - In My Little Corner Of The World - Anita Bryant
1961 - Exodus - Ferrante & Teicher
1962 - Cindy's Birthday - Johnny Crawford
1963 - My Dad - Paul Peterson
1964 - My Heart Belongs To Only You - Bobby Vinton
1965 - Red Roses For A Blue Lady - Vic Dana
1966 - The Men In My Little Girls's Life - Mike Douglas
1967 - An Open Letter To My Teenage Son - Victor Lundberg
1968 - My Special Angel - Vogues
1969 - Love Them From Romeo And Juliet - Henry Mancini

Personally, I like Ferrante & Teicher's "Exodus." Beyond that, however, I really can't argue with any of that guy's picks!

Who says the 1960s were the Golden Age of Music? :puke:

42. Anybody else remember these three undying gems from 1968?
"Oscar Crunch has gone to join the zoo (zoo-zoo-zoo)
He couldn't make with the kangaroo (roo-roo-roo)..
He has tried to infiltrate, into the park through the gate
Oscar Crunch has gone to join the zoo
REFRAIN:
What a crazy madman we have here
(Yeah groovey, really moves me--awww)
He's not a madman he's sincere..."

"It's snowing in Cleveland
It's pouring in Maine
And the people of New Jersey
Don't even know her name" --the refrain of "The Countess"

"Cinnamon, let me in
Cinnamon, let me in...
One potato, two potato, three potato, four (Oooooh-uh-uh)
Come on Cinnamon I'm back for more"
