Poll question: Am I the only one who's fed to the teeth with All Things Oprah?
Can't believe I'm doing an Oprah thread but I have to know.

Am I the only one who is tired of hearing her name, seeing her face, seeing her "Oprah book club" books, seeing her god-damned ego-centric "O" magazine, hearing her voice, seeing flashes of her stupid TV show between commercials? Am I the only one who wishes desperately that she'd won that Oscar*, so that maybe she'd've kept acting instead of becoming a corporation?

* Which she richly deserved.

Would Oprah cease to exist?

6. Her degree of influence in my life is barely negligible
For example, my immediate reaction to something like "Oprah endorses Obama" is generally "Yeah? So f**king WHAT?"

She has talent and she has ability and she has a lot of other things that to me are a huge pain in the ass and an annoyance.

She's a brand, a corporation, and I generally shop elsewhere.

That's Oprah.

16. I too am sick to death of her
She and Obama have one thing in common--their tenuous claim on sainthood. I think they are made for each other.

I can't stand watching her show because it is all so holier-than-thou, look-how-rich-I-am-why-aren't-you.

Oprah Winfrey has been everywhere for the last fifteen years, and she's growing like Audrey II. The phenomenon began long before The Endorsement.

AAAGH! He's like the obnoxious, know-it-all brother in-law you have to invite over to Thanksgiving dinner because of your sister. Before you know it, he's telling you how to baste the turkey or insisting you fry it Southern-style. Then, starting right to left, he tells everyone what's wrong with their attitude. Loudly. With a Southern accent in NH.

21. I'm definitely sick of all the Hillbot "hate Oprah" threads in GDP.
But I will agree that Oprah reached the point of over saturation about the time she got her own XM channel, wasting bandwidth which could have been much better utilized by a second progressive channel, so they wouldn't have to butcher Thom Hartmann and Mike Malloy's shows.

24. Early on in her career, when she still seemed completely
thrilled and astounded by how successful she was, I liked her a lot. Now, not so much. But I tend to get irritated with people who are fascinated by their own wonderfulness, and don't tone down their self love. And I have read over the years that she has turned increasingly into a rather nasty diva. I am happy for her that she's done so well, but put a sock in it already. She has damaged all our psyches enough by inflicting that useless sap Dr. Phil on us. I won't buy a book if it's got that damned Oprah Book Club crap on it, and I wish she'd take a break from the cover of her magazine, which, I'll admit, can sometimes really be pretty good. But I don't need to see Martha Stewart grinning at me to understand that yes, indeed, Martha helms (or used to, anyway) her magazine; I don't need to see Oprah to understand that "O" is her magazine, either.

42. You're obsessed with cats. Oprah is a dog person.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oprah_Winfrey#Family

Sophie and Soloman are her two Cocker Spaniels and she also owns three Golden Retrievers. A third dog, "Gracie" died from choking in May 2007.

:tinfoilhat:

Of course, the O has stood for Overexposed for quite some time now, which would be a perfectly valid reason to have this thread even if she did have cats!

44. I don't pay much attention to Oprah
I don't think her show is that great because it seems to cement the kitschy hausfrau Ladies Home Journal culture that really grates my nerves. Also she is responsible for inflicting Dr. Phil and a host of other "self-help" plagues upon the nation - as if spending thousands of dollars on inane bullshit "self improvement" books and CDs is going to improve the average middle class woman's situation in life.

Bertha, I love you honey, but the hateration needs to stop.

Oprah is getting paid and people can't stand it. Martha Stewart doesn't even get this much hate, and she arguably deserves it.

Things that make you go "hmm".

So did Whoopi.

As did the film "The Color Purple".

One thing that really is bugging me.

Now I like Oprah a lot. I think she gave some fantastic speeches at the rallies. BUT! When did she start speaking like a southern preacher?

Damn! People talk shit about Madonna and her fake ass english accent.
