The Incredible Creeping Cocktail Hour(s)
Back in the dim and distant past, when I was still a working stiff, the cocktail hour(s) began promptly at the stroke of 5.
Not a minute earlier.
Rules is rules.
The very foundations of civilized behavior depend on it.

Then I retired.
And very slowly, over a period of months, it crept up to 4:30.
And it didn't stop there.
The creep continued.
Until my daily period of attitude adjustment was beginning at 4.
But I drew the line there.
Really.
Absolutely no earlier.

And then just a little while ago (3:48 p.m. to be exact) I started thinking (never a good sign).
What am I?
A SLAVE to some arbitrary schedule?
A veritable SERF to some chronological overlord?
HELL NO!

Which brought to mind the words of a famous American, "Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!!!"

And so I marched straight out to the kitchen at precisely 3:50 and built myself a nice, strong Scotch & soda.
"Take THAT!" I thought.
I am the captain of my fate, and NO ONE ELSE!

Just don't tell Miz t., OK?
Thanks.
:-)

1. This is a reprieve reply.

Like when you're strapped in the chair and the governor calls death row with a stay of execution 5 minutes before they throw the switch?

In the spirit of the season, and because I've been in the same spot many times before, I've decided to reply to any post that nears the bottom of the page with '0' replies.
(Except copycats and song lyrics.)
I give you new life.
Use it wisely.

Happy Hollandaise

(This is an Equal Opportunity Holiday Service, even for me. Hell, ESPECIALLY for me.)

4. Assuming that being happy is better than not being happy, why limit it to just one hour?
That's bullshit.

Drink during all waking hours, that's what I say.

5. That's why I left some wiggle room with "hour(s)".

6. given that time is relative and all that
I subscribe to the theory that it's always after 5 somewhere in the universe. As long as you're not drinking and driving where's the harm?

7. I too have used the "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" justification.
And there's also the loophole for Mimosas and Bloody Marys at brunch.
