Pet Turkey Happily Reunited With Family

By Erin Wolfe
WHAG-TV
Nov. 22
HAGERSTOWN, MD - A turkey spotted in line at a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru on Wednesday actually belongs to a family, and he made it back home just in time for dinner. "Speedy" the turkey went missing from the home of Susie and Clark Clipp on Howell Road Wednesday morning.

He was found in line at the Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru on Dual Highway, but the person who picked him up was not the owner.

On NBC25 Nightbeat at 11 Wednesday evening, the Clipps made a plea for someone to return their beloved pet turkey. They promised not to press charges as long as Speedy was returned safely.

On Thursday the Clipps found out Speedy was at a llama farm in Smithsburg.

9. Guess the turkey hasn't heard who owns Dunkin Donuts?
They got bought out by the Carlyle Group a while back. Baskin Robbins and Dr. Pepper too. Why does the Bush Crime Family need to be involved in junk food? :evilfrown:

10. and especially, why do they have to be involved in MY junk food?
This is seriously bad news for me. I live on Dr.Pepper. Guess this is going to be my reason to finally end the addiction. I just couldn't do it before, but I think this news will make it a lot easier.

8. yup.
I have a flock of wild turkeys who show up every day for a meal and a drink. I've always fed them bits of bread, but recently thought I should give them a healthier snack. So, I went & bought some grain. Their reaction is similar to trying to get most 2 yr. olds to eat broccoli!

Was sorely tempted to offer cranberry sauce yesterday. They're a real trip & I feel so lucky to have them around.

14. We live in a really small town (village is better word) in a remote area
Wildlife outnumber humans by a Brazillion to one. A flock of wild turkeys moved to the edge of town and have sorta become municipal pets. The guy who does all the maintence for the town even put up WILDLIFE CROSSING signs where highway comes into town, to slow up travelers and alert them

We have had a resident population of deer since I have been here. Someone even managed to put bright collars on a couple of them, again, to try and send a message to visitors (and hunters staying in town after being frustrated out on the range). When we put a birdbath out in the front yard (heavily planted with wildflowers and sunflowers) the deer started making our home their home on summer nights during the dry season. It was cool seeing where they bedded down each night. (Drives the watch-cat crazy though) The deer don't do much damage to any of the gardens either. Guess Havocdad knows which flowers are not tasty to deer.

I love having wildlife close by. Makes for easier connections with real life. When I lived in AZ and had insomnia for eons, I walked at all hours of the night/very early morning. Had a pair of coyotes near my home who took to walking with me. I think I was their hunting dog, flushing birds, ground squirrels, and the occasional foolish bunny.

One spring, I didn't see them much. Would see the male once in awhile. Worried about his mate. One morning, just at false dawn, they both showed up, loping along with me. She was staying back a bit, in the scrub brush. I spoke to her and asked what was wrong. The mail made a funny movement and the female stuck her muzzle down by the small plant by her feet. Out scampered a robust and feisty pup!

Talk about feeling lucky! This wily pair felt they knew me well enough to introduce their youngster! Maybe they were showing Junior the old, ugly but useful hunting human. That was a trip.

Then, there was a big pack near my sister's all the way across town (Tucson) that escorted me back to her townhouse from the hospital ER just before dawn. Tough neighborhood, but I had no choice but walk the 3 miles. Yeah, I was a tad nervous about it. The pack my sister's dog was pals with showed up, completely encircled me and it was a most secure walk home.

Generally, I feel much safer with 'wild animals' than what passes for civilized humans in most cases ;)

We ARE blessed and gifted by the nearness of nature.
