Someone explain the logic of spending the night on the pavement
Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 08:12 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
of a store to get supposed bargains? Am I the only one who thinks it's f*cked up?

Isabella Miller is having trouble getting excited about shopping at 5 this morning in Best Buy in Newport News. Shoppers lined up starting Thanksgiving Day to take advantage of early shopping bargains. (Rob Ostermaier, Daily Press / November 22, 2007)

1. 17 Years ago
I went to the local Wal-Mart (15 miles away) for their opening on Black Friday Morning; I think it was 6:00; just to see for myself if this hype of early shoppers was real. I was traumatized. The women and their shopping carts were menaces (before the store opened.) I failed to see the attraction. I did not go in the store. I got in my truck and drove home and fixed my wife breakfast. I do hope Black Friday helps the economy but I'll contribute my assistance in a less traumatic fashion.

2. I can't understand it either. I get that people want bargains and such,
and I love 'em myself, but I've found that stores often bring new merchandise in closer to Christmas, and have good sales then too, which are not nearly as crazy.

MrSG worked opening today, and he said that within an hour (they opened at 5:00 am), the shoe department looked as if someone had taken it, turned it upside down, shook it a number of times, and dumped the contents out. Boots, shoes, boxes, paper, all over the place. It was insane.

3. Geez. People are animals. Happy holidays, right?!
I think we're going to do gift certificates for the siblings and parents (we usually keep things very simple); hubby (Chimpy McSmirkers here on DU) usually sends me links to what he wants, so I'll be doing online shopping for him.

4. They really are. I really don't get it.
I usually know what I want before I go out shopping, so I can go to the stores where I know the stuff is, get it, and get out.

I'm really not into the all-out, shopping-cart-and-purse-slamming that some people try to do. :eyes:
