I really need a new vac. Since all the sales are coming up, I figured this would be a good time to get one.
Thanks...

1. A Dyson's Sphere?
I like that you think big, but you might be out of your budget range.

Sorry, you're surrounded by geeks with a need to post.

But I'm lazy.

2. I love my Dyson...
I have 2 dogs and 1 long-haired cat. I have to vaccuum twice a week and I fill the canister each time. I also suffer from asthma, and since I got this vaccuum, my nighttime attacks have diminished.

4. No problems clogging?
I know it says it doesn't, but ya know how it is with commercials.
One cat and two children (one who is thirty!) keep me pretty busy too.

That's what I paid for my Hoover. But it's self-propelled.

11. I have the Dyson "Animal" and it's the best!
I've owned alot of vacuums but this is by far the best ever! Easy to use, great suction, simple to empty and no swirling dust and hair while you vacuum. It somehow keeps the air clean.

17. Consumer Reports regularly rates vacuum cleaners. Dyson wasn't one of the better ones
I subscribe to their website www.consumerreports.org

Here are their best picks:

Best uprights for most tasks:

• Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 , $150, CR Best Buy
• Hoover WindTunnel Bagless U5753-900 , $160
• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 36932 , $300
• Hoover WindTunnel 2 U8311-900 , $250
• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 , $300, CR Best Buy

The Kenmore 35922 offers the best blend of performance and features. The Eureka offers the best value, while the Hoovers offer easier pushing and pulling.

25. We bought that Eureka that CS rated so well
It didn't last 3 months. My mom just put in all hardwood floors so she's giving us her Dyson, so it all worked out.

18. I love my Dyson.
Well worth the money to me. Most vacuums last about a year here and this one still works like new. I have the Animal, empty it after each use, very easy to empty without throwing dust back into the air. First one I found that works on all the fur, feathers and dust(quarry down the road). Very easy to use, does not need to be self propelled it glides so easy.

19. I have an I Robot and it's perfect for my lazy ass. It also works really
well because you set it to do a part of the room at a time and it keeps going until all the dirt is picked up because of the sensor. Someone showed me one for $150 on buy.com

Plus it gets under the bed and around things that a regular vacuum doesn't. I love the little guy.

21. HELL YES!
I got one for a wedding present and I LOVE it. It's the best vaccuum I've ever owned, by far. It's the little things about it, too - the cord is placed so that it doesn't get it your way and you don't vaccuum over it. The plastic cylinder you empty is sturdy enough that you don't accidentally empty it onto your clean carpet. :) The movement is smooth. I love, love the little flat attachment that lets you clean pet hair off the furniture. My boy cat likes to sleep on our loveseat, and it's constantly covered with hair. With the Dyson, it all comes off. And yes, the commercials are true - it never clogs and never loses suction. I have this one:

22. I have one and it's great
I used to end up buying vacuums every couple of years because the cheapo crap kept falling apart and doing a lousy job. Those were the $69 or $89 ones you can buy at KMart, Target or Wal-Mart.

I even bought a nicer one once that was around $150, and that still didn't last.

However, my Dyson seems to still be going strong.

You can find refurbished ones at various online places for like half the normal list price, too.

I will qualify that by saying we have no pets, and I also have two children (one that is almost 5 and another that is 37)

24. My Dyson was a piece of junk. We bought a LUX. Now THAT is a vac!
It was quite $$$ but the thing is simply the best vac out there.

Simple mechanics. Quite. Self-propelled.

Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 12:31 PM by chimpsrsmarter
but compared to the other bag less vacs i've tried this one doesn't have to be emptied after every room. I also got the bare floor attachment, that thing is awesome.

29. Love it so far
I just recently bought the Dyson DC15 Animal from http://1directvacuum.com/. Over a hundred dollars cheaper then Amazon. I couldn't believe how much dirt and cat hair it picked up the first time I used it.

In addition, it's not advertised as being self-propelled, but the beater brush is so strong that it feels as if it is. The 'ball' feature of this one really makes it easy to maneuver as well.

30. I have one
best machine I ever had. I bought it on a whim at Costco and my wife just about died when she saw it. She couldn't believe that I spent $300 on a vacuum. She's a believer now. A friends brother is a manufacturer's rep for Dyson and he's hooked me up with a spare filter, hose, canister and the car cleaning kit for cheap. Dyson rocks.

and we have not burned out the boss yet. It was a consumer reports best buy. The dyson got really bad reviews for everything when it came out.
