on some *other* boards, Ive seen them used when someone wants to argue a point, and make it look like other people are agreeing with them. they'll log in as two or more users at the same time, and tag-team to flood a thread with their opinions.

closely related to the "meat puppet", which is a sock puppet used to make bad opposing arguements against the real user.
