Accused of failing drug test (cocaine), Hingis retires (tennis)
http://msn.foxsports.com/tennis/story/7398912?MSNHPHCP>1=10637

ZURICH, Switzerland - Martina Hingis said Thursday she has been accused of testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon, and then announced her retirement from professional tennis.

Hingis, a five-time Grand Slam champion and former Wimbledon winner, denied using cocaine.
"I find this accusation so horrendous, so monstrous that I've decided to confront it head on by talking to the press," she said. "I am frustrated and angry. I believe that I am absolutely 100 percent innocent."

Her voice broke as she fought back tears in reading the statement. At the end, she took no questions and left the news conference.

2. Testing positive for cocaine
you pretty much have to be high when you test. It doesn't stay in the system very long. Pot is basically the same-the amount needed to fail is so high that you DO have to be high to fail...mostly.

This isn't saying that she is or isn't guilty but I can tell you that people with agendas use the accusations as the weapon.

3. not what I'm saying
you're either 100% innocent or not, you can't "believe" you are 100% innocent of something like doing coke, you either did it or you didn't

maybe I'm just nit-picking the brat

5. Well, that may be, but her situation is very unique.
I wouldn't be surprised if she were 110% innocent.

7. It's the GW Dipshit approach to facts.
What you "believe" in your "heart" trumps all facts or logic.

4. Her B sample also tested positive.
According to the article I read at www.sportinglife.com.

I wasn't especially convinced of her innocence by her explanations or immediate retirement from tennis, either.

Of course, I'm not a fan of hers, though I'll grant she's got talent and made a very big splash in '97-'99.

6. If she didn't want to be accused, she shouldn't have done cocaine.
Seems pretty simple to me.

8. Oh jeez
This is the first I heard about this. That is awful. Martina was (is) one of my fave all-time players. I will miss her on the courts. :(
