Anyone ever see "The Lake House"?
Saw it the first time today and thought it was great, but was left totally confused at the ending. Kate sends a letter to Alex near the end to warn him to wait and meet her at the Lake House in 2 years. So, he does await and avoids the death that he would have met by being hit by the bus. They embrace and both walk into the Lake House together in loving bliss. However, just a short while earlier, Alex's brother had told Kate that he had died 2 years earlier in that accident on Valentine's Day of 2004. Since he was killed in that accident, according to his brother, how the heck did Kate's warning save his life for them to unite at the end? BTW, I love Sandra Bullock. I wish I was Alex and kissing her deeply, and walking into the Lake House for eternity with her.;)

1. Like a lot of time travel movies, it's better if you don't think about it.
The whole thing falls apart in about 2 seconds if you apply logic to it.

2. I guess you are right, Finn
Our imaginations likely make it better anyway. I figure that once she realized that he was dead, she also realized that she was communicating with him after death.
Then, she sent him a letter to tell him to return to the Lake House, where she bolted to in order to commit "Harry Carey" and join him in the afterlife.

7. You both got it. The story doesn't hold water; therefore, the film isn't great.

At least, that's my opinion.

Alex "received" the warning two years earlier than when Kate sent it, just like he received all her other messages, so he wasn't dead yet. When they finally meet it is the same day of the warning for her, but two years later for him.

5. There ya go. Good explaination, Jade Fox
I like the movie a lot too and I am not real a Keanu Reeves fan.

The dog traveling in and out is what still has me stumped, but then, I am nearly senile.

8. I still don't get it. How could she warn him about something
that never happened?
