Stupid nostalgia?
My kids wanted to browse in a second hand / antique shop the other day, and so I took them in to look around. Lots of interesting knicknacks... stuff you'd think most people would call junk, but there it was.

One thing that grabbed my attention was a cologne bottle from Avon, shaped like a bulldog-shaped pipe. WEIRD thing. My dad had one when I was little. I opened it and it still smelled like the cologne inside.

What I don't get is how much I wanted to buy that stupid old ugly cologne bottle. My childhood was FAR from ideal, and so I don't know why I'd want to have it around, but I did... and still do. I can see myself going back there and forking out the cash to have that little reminder of my painful childhood. What the... ?

:wtf:

1. Nostalgia hits at odd times and in odd ways sometimes.
If it's not too expensive I'd say to go with it, redqueen.

6. Well... 'too expensive' is subjective...
I probably will end up getting it, if it's still there around my birthday.

2. It obviously struck a deep chord in you. If the price is not
outrageous you should go ahead a get it. If it's collectible now, you can always sell it later if you decide you don't want to keep it.

3. Scattered Pictures
Memories,
Like the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? could we?
Memries, may be beautiful and yet
Whats too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So its the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

----------
This brings me back memories and nostalgia..........:hi:

4. Just the way it is sometimes...
smells are the most powerful.

There is an area in my neighborhood where I walk my dog that smells just like my grandmothers kitchen. Go figure. I linger there for minutes sometimes. of course my dog wants to keep moving lol

of memories.

Everytime I smell new mown hay I have vivid memories of the farm I spent my first seven years on over 50 years ago. It's amazing.

Peonies do the same thing, triggering childhood memories. We had a yard that had a whole hedge of peonies.
