What films should never, ever be remade?
Under any circumstances?

One for me would be "Casablanca". There is no possible way you could ever improve on the original.

1. 3:10 to Yuma kinda changed my mind on the subject.

FANTASTIC. If every remake was like that, I'd say REMAKE 'EM ALL.

Liked "The Time Machine" and "War of the Worlds," too.

40. But wouldn't it be better if he had like super powers and was like...y'know...hot?
I'm sure that has been said by more than one coked-out twit in a Hollywood boardroom.

38. TAILS AGAIN!
Al Torres: You're a fucking stripper, don't you get it.
Nomi Malone: I'm a dancer.

Wade Garrett: That gal's got entirely too many brains to have an ass like that.

Cristal Connors: Where do you dance at, darlin'?
Nomi Malone: Um... at the Cheetah.
Cristal Connors: I don't know how good you are, darlin', and I don't know what it is you're good at, but if it's at the Cheetah, it's not dancing, I know that much.
Nomi Malone: You don't know shit!

Dalton: All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.

Nomi Malone: You can't touch me, but I can touch you. I'd really love to touch you.

Dalton: People who really want to have a good time won't come to a slaughterhouse. And we've got entirely too many troublemakers here. Too many 40-year-old adolescents, felons, power drinkers and trustees of modern chemistry.

Four films which could not be improved by remaking them. Oh, too late for Psycho though. What fools to think that they could improve on it.

24. Only really bad or ill-conceived films should be remade
Then some director can see if it's possible to do better with the same material.

Otherwise, leave the good stuff alone!

In addition, Hollywood aids in the dumbing down of America by remaking perfectly good foreign films. Reading subtitles and hearing foreign languages and seeing how people live in foreign countries would be good for the average American.

41. Yeah, but you can bet that some new jackass director with no sense of history and sunglasses
will think that he can "outdo" Casablanca. Probably with a great big ten minute violent shoot out at the air strip at the end, blood everywhere and dead Nazis stacked up by the pallet like empty Oreo boxes in Rosie's bathroom, and then Rick flies off as well while Celine Dion or Beyonce sings some kind of fucking power ballad.

Same with Citizen Kane.

47. The Towering Inferno
The greatest thing about that movie is they used Real Fire and Real Explosives for Real Effects.

If they remade that movie they'd use CGI fire, and it would lose all its effectiveness.

Manos: The Hands of Fate (there's a good reason it should never be remade.)

Black Sunday (One of Frankenheimer's best)

Watership Down (I can see it getting all CGI'd to Hell and Back)

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World
