Pretending to Care
(2005) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssr78EXeCQc

The *song* is from the middle of a lesser known release of his from 1990.

Here with string quartet, the original was all his voice, multi tracked "oohs" and "ahhs." FWIW, the strings here reflect the original arrangement to the letter.

Mr. R is supposed to be quite arrogant, but not so much so that he felt he was above singing lessons and coaches fairly late in his career (late 80s through 90s, I think). I think that is reflected here.

Anyhow, I hope you find something to enjoy here. I'm on a real kick with TR, so expect to see more in coming days.

4. I'm on x-tra slow dial-up, so I will have to pass - but I am an old fan of the man
one of the most talented musicians I ever had the pleasure of seeing, for sure.

7. Hey..well thanks for checking in anyhow.
The guy is freaky good at a lot of things: writing, singing, guitar playing, producing.

I guess what I was getting on about in original post was how well his voice has aged. Hello It's Me, Can We Still Be Friends, etc from his "pop" side weren't exactly poor vocals and then he went and worked hard to improve his voice/learn how to sing w/out losing it.

Take care, kali.

8. Was, I believe.
That is, he was for sure, but that is done now *I think*.

Ric Okasek (sp?) sure never sang this purty though. This is like a Broadway song for a woman or something. Really slippery melody that, more so than range IMO, makes this a tough one to sing.

Thanks for looking in. Peace.

9. Beautiful.
His pitch center is better than most pop singers who are lauded for their vocals.

His tasteful and musical phrasing is miles beyond them.

It ain't arrogance if you can back it up.
