Rob Zombie shatters 3-day holiday weekend box office record with "Halloween" remake: $26.5 million
Rob Zombie's new "Halloween," a retelling of the 1978 slasher classic, hauled in an estimated $26.5 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales through today, distributor MGM said.

The R-rated production from Weinstein Co.'s Dimension Films shattered the previous three-day record for the holiday, held by "Transporter 2," which opened to $16.5 million in 2005.

The ninth film in the franchise focusing on mask-wearing serial killer Michael Myers reversed a lengthy slump for the R-rated-horror category. This year's horror flops include "Hostel: Part II" and "Captivity."

"Only a couple weeks ago, people were talking about the death of the horror movie," said Clark Woods, president of domestic distribution at MGM. "The genre sure wasn't dead this weekend."

2. Rob Zombie is an amazing filmmaker
House of 1000 Corpses - ambitious film, amazing start, but he did not know how to end the film.

Devil's Rejects - Might be the best film of the millenium so far. As a piece of art it is amazing.

I can't wait to see this.

4. Agree with you 100% on both counts...
..."House" was a first film that felt like a first film, but WOW.

"Rejects"...can't even begin to discuss this one. That's probably why the second DVD in the set, the "making of" documentary, was longer than the film itself. There's a LOT going on. A friend recommended it and I thought "Yeah, RIGHT..."

Then I watched it. My friend was a master of understatement.

Rob's one of the few people who was able to soak up the influences...cinematic and musical...like a sponge, and somehow turn them into something that hadn't been seen before.

7. I wouldn't say it's even remotely close to the best film of the millenium so far...
But it is a damn good one.

3. It's still early, but reviews are pretty bad so far.
22% at RT.

I was expecting it to do a little better after seeing The Devil's Rejects.

5. You can get the workprint online:)
I don't really care for it to be honest. I guess since i am a big fan of the original.

Zombie relies to much on gore, which is somewhat standard these days i suppose. I always liked the suspense/thriller that the original is/was.

Also, Zombie needs to turn down the cussing and stop watching Mtv. Some of the dialogue was pathetic.

It did have a couple good points though. But i think i'll stick to the original:)

6. RT's critics are notoriously tough on these kinds of remakes...
...and I'm sure that half of the joy that Rob felt in making the film was that he "shouldn't have made the film" (in alignment with popular critical thinking)...

...but how can any critic possibly find fault with a Rob Zombie slasher flick that includes Micky Dolenz (and many of the "Rejects" actors) in the cast?
