DM of the Rings (humor for LotR fans and D&D players)
I thought this was pretty funny.

>>>
Lord of the Rings is more or less the foundation of modern D&D. The latter rose from the former, although the two are now so estranged that to reunite them would be an act of savage madness. Imagine a gaggle of modern hack-n-slash roleplayers who had somehow never been exposed to the original Tolkien mythos, and then imagine taking those players and trying to introduce them to Tolkien via a D&D campaign.

I know some gamers like that.

DM: (to summarize)From what you gather, the town you grew up in is about to be over-run by a marauding horde of orcs & goblins.

My Player: We must evacuate the young and make our stand behind at the Lord Prentiss' manorhouse - the walls will offer us protection, and maybe we can convince his private guards to help us. We can buy time for the young and the weak.

Other Player: Let's leave this town and go to the city so we can get cool stuff.

Another Player: I hate 3rd edition, 1st Edition was the only real D&D because the rules are perfect.

(I'm not joking... and, while I have very fond memories of 1E D&D, I knew at 13 or 14 years old that the rules were far from perfect. I didn't care, though, because that succubus was hot!)
