Is it just me, or has VW lost its way?
I remember when VW was considered a car for the masses. A car for which ordinary folks with not much money could get a pretty good car. Nowadays, it seems that VW doesn't care for the ordinary person anymore. All they want to do is make cars that only people with money can afford. I miss the old VW.

1. Much of the old VW is still around.

Granted, they don't have a cheap car like the old Beetle anymore, but my loaded Jetta barely broke the $20,000 mark new, and I love it.

Edit: don't be fooled by the Phaeton. They're only bringing 330 of them to the US this year.

4. The Phaedron and Touareg
They're trying to break into the profitable luxury and SUV markets with these new cars, but it's rough going. Their speciality has always been workmanlike everyman's cars, so they don't have the organizational setup for courting and serving luxury-car customers.

5. A driver rear ended me the other day. The car was a VW.
The VW wasn't damaged at all, but it made a large indentation in my back fender.

By the way, I still like VW's  especially the vans :-)

6. as far as I'm concerned they lost their way in 89
when their "car for the masses" was a golf, the "the masses" were expensive mechanics needed to keep it running.

I should have financed the "pit crew" option when I bought the damn thing.

12. My husband trashed his first Passat
Had to buy a new one the following year because he neglected to put high test in it. Blew the engine.

Draw your own conclusions.
