As of tonight, there's one less veteran of Connecticut radio.

Just got a phone call that a colleague of mine in the radio biz has passed away.

His name was Ken Jordan. He was a veteran of the Southern Connecticut airwaves, having done radio in the greater New Haven area since the 1960s. He also MC'd a number of '50s and '60s revival concerts that the New Haven Police Union put on at the Lyman Auditorium on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University in the 1980s and '90s.

I didn't know Ken really well, but I met him a few times over the years--including a Sunday evening in 1998, when I hung out with him for a few hours while he hosted his oldies show on WAVZ-AM. When that station went all news/talk a couple of years back, Ken almost immediately scored a new Sunday-night gig, spinning the early rock 'n' roll sounds on WLNG-FM in Sag Harbor, Long Island. To avoid the lengthy commute, he taped the show at home and FedEx'd the recordings to WLNG.

Last I had heard about Ken, he'd had a massive heart attack some time in early 2003, which had come close to killing him. But he managed to hold on for the better part of a year--until tonight.

I can just see ol' Kenny up in Rock 'n' Roll Heaven, hanging out in the celestial air studio with Alan Freed, Wolfman Jack, George "Hound Dog" Lorenz, Tommy "Dr. Jive" Smalls, and Gus Gossert, among others.

Rest in peace, my radio brother! The Elm City will not soon forget you.
