I get so confused with things with similar user interfaces
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 05:06 PM by TrogL
(less inscrutible title, fancy formatting)

I've been sitting in a couple of threads typing ctrl-d and wondering why they won't go away (because that only works in Microsoft Outlook).

I've been typing [i] in Microsoft Word and wondering why I didn't get italics. (only works on websites similar to DU)

I've been typing :wq at the end of my posts and wonder why they don't save (only works in vi, a UNIX ap)

Moving the mouse has no affect on the TV.

Firing the remote at the computer monitor won't bring up applications.

Scratching the child on the head won't make it purr.

The cat reacts badly to being diapered.

2. I vote we eliminate all text editors except for VI !
That would simplify our lives, eh?

And, how about 1 computer language.

Instead of C,C++,Perl,PHP,SAS,Python,Fortran,Pascal,Lisp,Pike, let's, uh, make a new one!

I feel your pain :hurts:

6. Somebody has waaaaay too much time on their hands
I did some work in APL. In fact it's the reason my first full-blown computer was a Macintosh - IBM couldn't supply an APL character set.

8. It's been done
ADA

http://archive.adaic.com/docs/reports/lawlis/j.htm

It combines all the faults of all the other languages into one monolithic mess.

4. I have tried to use the phone to turn down the TV volume.
I have used the TV remote to try and turn down the volume on the radio.
This morning I answered the remote when the phone rang.

5. My Niece
I saw my niece (13 months) pick up a remote control and hold it to the side of her head and started yammering away in baby-gibberish. Too funny :)

10. Not new.
People have been pouring orange juice in their coffee and trying to start their car with the house keyy for years.
