Teachers - can you relate to this story?

I went to Lethbridge last night to get completely hosed with and old Buddy from University.

He just finnished a teaching practicum not too long ago. He told me this story.

There was a kid that was always disrupting classes and never did his homework and had trouble reading. So my buddy called his Dad to come in. The guy always broke appointments and things like that. Finally he showed up, he came into the class and sat down with a look on his face like, "What?!"

My friend said, "look your son is a good kid but we think he is having problems reading and we'd like to do extra work with him to help him catch up."

The guy just said, "Only FAGS read books." And then got up and walked out.

And the world continues hope........


I bet the dad couldn't read.

3. How 'bout this table turner?

My son got a progress report showing he was failing math (he's in fifth grade). I e-mailed his teacher with my concerns, namely that he never brought homework home so I couldn't help him on any work but his tests, by then it was too late.

Teacher's response: Yes, I tell my kids not to bring homework home so they reduce the risk of losing it (wha?). Then she went on to tell me that he was doing better, listening, turning in assignments, etc.

The problem he's having now is his gas. And it's disrupting the class. <side laugh>

He got on F on his report card. I forwarded the e-mail to the principal.

4. here's another similar one

I was doing my student teaching and sharing an office with another teacher. One of the kids in his class was disruptive and not doing his work, so he calls up the kid's mom. Her response: "Don't ever call me again! - that rotten SOB is your responsibility from 8-3 M-F!" He said it sounded like she was drunk or high. I'd say that kid has about a 100% chance of ending up in the judicial system.

5. Sounds like that family needs to be investigated or something...

Could help the kid immensely. He's probably acting out because of his home life. I hate seeing that. And I hate seeing that and watching the adults in his life IGNORE the signs.
On edit: I don't mean to imply that you ignored it...I just hate it when people try to help, meet resistance, then quit.

There are still people who are terrified of learning. And politicos of the right who are happy to feed the prejudices.

Learning is liberation.
