AH! Messed up a wool hat, how can I fix it?

SO, I messed up my Mac cap, by accidentally putting in the washing machine. Te back now sits to high on my head. It's made of wool, anyone know how I can fix this problem?

6. Take it to the Dry Cleaners

Ask them to "block" it for you.
They will measure your head and then
reshape it to fit you again.

8. Well, good luck, but I don't think the dry cleaners can help you.

It sounds like your hat has been "felted." In other words, made into felt. It won't return to its normal self. Knitters will wash wool items in hot water to intentionally cause this to occur, since it makes the knitted item very dense and warm. We make the item way too large before we felt it, though, because it shrinks like a bitch. As you have noticed.

11. vinegar

I've heard vinegar helps loosen shrunken wool but I have never tried it. If it doesn't work, you can always add a little oil and garlic and eat it as a salad.
