Best age for a kid to get a cat
Tavernertoddler loves cats. In fact, every time he makes wishes at a wishing well, he ALWAYS ALWAYS wishes for a cat. He loves watching them, and playing with them. He's not a big fan of dogs.

HOWEVER, Tavernertoddler is about to turn 4. I know a Four-Year-Old cannot care for a cat. We won't either. We just sent our "firstborn" off to "college" (our dog went to go live with my dad since we couldn't take care of him.) So the only way we'd allow a feline in the house would be if my son would care for him

So what age, say you?

2. I think 7 would be a good age.
Now, I have no kids of my own. Just a suggested age.

5. I think ten is a good age for a kid to take care of a pet.
If he is going to be in charge of caring for the pet, ten is a good age for him to learn that responsibility. My sister's daughters, ages 8 and 6, love animals and have pets, but they are not fully in charge of their care. I think once the 8-year-old is around 10, she'll be ready to accept more responsibility. :)

6. If you're not willing to take over, don't get one.
By the time he's old enough to care for one solo, he'll be old enough that you'll almost certainly be stuck with a cat you don't want while he goes off to college, gets ratty apartments that don't allow pets, etc.
