1. I tend to keep my noise to myself
My neighbors don't know what kind of music I like.

I wish I could say the same about the neighbors I have had over the years.

3. I'm in the same boat.
Especially my current upstairs neighbour. I don't think he knew that the petite young woman who lived in my flat moved out. So he treated the building like his own personal nightclub. The civil reminders like letters from management were ignored. Then we had snow, so I left by the front door, rather than my patio, on the way to the train. I made sure I stopped in front of his door every day. It finally twigged that his downstairs neighbour is a lot bigger and angry.

When living amongst other people, I always take into consideration how my actions will affect those around me. Must be my communistical tendencies.

10. When I was in grad school we had, for a while, an absolute pig

living above us. He was a real sleazeball -- looked like the typical 30-something spoiled frat boy type and had a rich family -- and he used to take women up there (no idea how he got them, unless they were more attracted to his expensive car or really drunk) and have noisy intimacies with them, often culminating in screaming matches. I don't know if he was physically abusive -- it would not surprise me -- but he sure was verbally. I was so relieved when he moved out. I'd reached the point at which, when I saw him (which was very rare, and I don't think i ever said a word to him), I wanted to just pummel him into unconsciousness. I feel your pain. :-(

After we moved from there and lived in a duplex, our last neighbor there was a black Bush-loving Republican fundamentalist Christian wack-job who listened to Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend" for hours on end, almost every day (absolutely NO exaggeration). I got a very strong feeling that he was gay, even if he had not figured it out himself, but by that time in the US I guess it'd be fair to say that any black person who was an ardent supporter of the Bush people most likely had at least a streak of self-loathing, gay or straight. He was a weirdo, and we were pretty freaked out by him. In the end he colluded with (acted as a spy, basically), the ex-Green-Beret-colonel retired-graphic-artist once-star-college-football-quarterback Freeper type who was our landlord (he was like a malevolent Forrest Gump in terms of the various things he'd done) to hassle us while we moved out. After almost a week of no sleep, loading thousands of pounds of stuff into a truck (it took so long because, for one thing, we were packing for storage 3000 miles away and an overseas destination for the next few years), I was at the end of my rope and I had altercations with both these right-wing f***ers that came thiiiiis close to being a fistfight. The black Freeper type even had a cardboard sign (Bush/Cheney) in the back window of his pickup truck to counter our Gore-Lieberman sign in the Camry....and he wrote the sign in -- get this, and I swear it's true -- crayons.

Dealing with those two subhuman pieces of fascist slime on top of the recent 2000 coup made me that much more happy about leaving the US for a while. I guess I'm lucky, though, that these three little pigs are the worst neighbors and worst landlord (barely) I've yet had.

16. I agree

Spent a lot of time underwater, too, where it's not entirely silent but sure is quieter than the human world (SCUBA exhaust bubbles notwithstanding).

Working on the Las Vegas Strip is jarring, most of the time, even now -- it's so incredibly noisy, and you don't realize quite how hard it is to get away from noise in this town (other towns, too, but Vegas is an especially loud one) 'til you try to hear someone on the telephone. :-(
