Funny story - HR at my company told me I needed to attend a seminar on people skills
So I get this email this morning, saying I was being required to attend a seminar to work on my people skills, and it was quite rude. So here I am baffled as to why HR would send this to me, so I write them back asking if they're sure it was intended for me. I get back another fairly rude email saying yes its for me.

So of course I flip out, and I send my direct boss an email saying that this is out of the blue, shocking, and that there is no way in hell i'll attend any seminar of the kind, and that they can consider this my 2 weeks notice.

About an hour later my boss calls...turns out someone else with my same first name was supposed to get the emails, and they thought i was him. He apologized profusely, so it looks like I still have a job for now.

1. Unless there are other issues at work
why would you quit over being asked to go to a people skills seminar?

3. Because its insulting, and rather embarrassing
My people skills are fine, and for them to single me out and make me attend some humiliating course is a bit of an outrage.

4. And you did the right thing by contacting HR
but then went overboard with the two weeks notice before you got the entire story. I'm glad things worked out in the end, but it appears that both you and the company handled it badly.

5. No way, now if they ever try to make me attend a course like that, they'll think twice
now they know I'm not one to be messed with. Preemptive strike!

2. Some 15 years ago, my company made me go to Dale Carnegie courses
Charm School......That was when I decided I needed a Doctorate so I wouldn't have to be nice ;)
