1. sounds like you have a spyware problem...
get spybot or spyware blaster to remove them...then download firefox as your browser and never have another unwanted pop-up again...seriously!

I downloaded firefox over 2 years ago and have not had a single spyware infection since

5. I have both on my computer...
they are both free programs but I like the interface of spyware blaster better. I honestly can't say which version is better because it's been a while since I've used either program, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Just watch out for these programs because they are fakes

17. I would recommend using a few.
I personally use Ad-Aware SE and Spybot.

Once you clean your computer of spyware, use Firefox with Adblock, and be conscious of the sites you're visiting.

4. The only reason I ever use IE is because ff won't allow me to...
download movies/files. I save target as cklick save and nothing happens. Weird because it use to work fine.

18. Might want to uninstall and then re-install Firefox.
If that doesn't work, start using Opera instead of IE to do your downloading.

7. These tools can help, if you don't have them
Edited on Tue May-01-07 10:06 PM by mvd
An anti-virus (Kaspersky, Norton, NOD32, and AntiVir are all good, but only use one)
An anti-trojan (BoClean from Comodo is my fave)
Ad-aware
SpySweeper
Spybot S&D
An online virus scan (one is at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)

A pop-up blocker might not help if you have malware.

9. BTW
The AVs I mentioned are not free. Though they might not be quite as good in protection, you can try AVG or Avast if you want. Those two are free. They should be fine against well known malware.

14. AntiVir does have a free edition, but..
Edited on Wed May-02-07 12:00 PM by mvd
it lacks spyware/adware protection. I was thinking of the premium version, which includes everything. Sometimes adware/spyware comes from trojan downloaders, which the free version would detect.

I think it only works for Firefox pop-ups, though.

12. I don't get IE pop-ups in Firefox when using it, as far as I can tell.
I avoid IE like the plague but the Explorer pop-up blocker seems to take care of most of them when I do use IE

It's not natural for IE popups to come up when you haven't opened up the browser. I bet he has adware or spyware.
