I get e-mail alerts if their recommendations on one of my stocks changes.

A few days ago I got one saying they were going from 'buy' to 'sell' on Windstream Corp. That's a cable/DSM/landline spinoff from Alltel.

I'd just gotten the quarterly report and it still looked good to me.
So I didn't sell.

This morning I get another alert.
From 'sell' to 'hold'.

1. Home-school day traders are nuts

I don't know how anybody thinks they can make $$ doing day trading like that on an individual level. I purposefully don't look at my stocks every day simply because of the daily fluctuations. I leave those machinations to the professionals.

You were right to hang on to that stock for a while.

2. Naw, I've never day traded.

In fact, that's one of the few common stocks I own.
Most are 'preferred stocks' in stable (dare I say 'conservative'? ;-)) companies that actually pay good dividends.

This one converted from a preferred to a common triggered by the spinoff a few months ago.
