I don't know how anybody thinks they can make $$ doing day trading like that on an individual level. I purposefully don't look at my stocks every day simply because of the daily fluctuations. I leave those machinations to the professionals.
You were right to hang on to that stock for a while.
In fact, that's one of the few common stocks I own. Most are 'preferred stocks' in stable (dare I say 'conservative'? ;-)) companies that actually pay good dividends.
This one converted from a preferred to a common triggered by the spinoff a few months ago.
