Is it pricey to get rings resized?
I have two that I need to have made smaller; I'm afraid they're going to fall off and get lost.
Is it expensive to have them resized?

1. Depends on the ring but smaller is usually pretty cheap
place near me does smaller for $10 and you have to get a quote for larger

12. How much extra?
I'm feeling in the mood for a little anesthesia, after posting in GD for a couple of days.

4. Are they old? Are the settings sound?
How thick or thin is the ring?

If they're old, go to a jeweler that is experienced with antique and estate jewelry.

I had an antique ring sized down with no problems. Sizing down is usually easier on the ring than sizing up.

5. One is my wedding band- no stone, not real thick,
the other is a fire topaz ring, neither are very old.

6. I don't think so
I had to get my engagement ring resized years ago and since I was desperately poor at the time and managed to do it, I can only assume it was cheap.

7. Not too bad
My mate had to resize the promise ring I gave her because she lost a lot of weight, (bariatric surgery), and it was around $50 bucks.

8. Not for simple, modern rings as a rule.
I don't recall what it cost when I had a 1950s-era band resized, but that means that it wasn't much because I'm cheap.

11. Simple bands are easy to resize
Jeweler puts them in a kind of press, like an old orange juice squeezer, and pulls the lever down. The die he puts in determines the outcome, bigger or smaller is the same effort.

Fancier rings have to be cut, mooshed smaller, then re-welded/soldered. Still not too bad.

13. Smaller? About $40 each.
Make sure they're appraised before you leave them there though.

14. Ask them to let you have the gold or silver that they remove
if they do.

They you can have it incorporated into another piece at a later time.
