Today, I left a note on a freeper's windshield

This car had some of the most obnoxious bumper stickers I had ever seen. Just two examples:

WHEN IN DOUBT, EMPTY THE MAGAZINE.

I BRAKE FOR ANIMALS; THEN I SHOOT THEM, EAT THEM, AND WEAR THEIR SKIN.

So I decided to leave a little note on the windshield:

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TREE-HUGGING, ANTI-WAR, HOMOSEXUAL, VEGETARIAN SOCIALIST!

For good measure, I also drew the peace sign below my message.

I wish I could see that fucker's face when he reads the note! }(

2. order a few dozen...
small round (about 1 1/2" dia) stickers from your local (union) printer. all they have on them is a graphic of a common screw.

magically, his bumper sticker says...
I BRAKE FOR ANIMALS; THEN I SHOOT THEM, (screw) THEM, AND WEAR THEIR SKIN.

I bet the guy's friends would stop coming around.

Someone (not me, honest!) stuck that one on a particularly objectionable co-worker's BMW a few years ago, and he didn't notice for months.

5. I knew this guy who worked at a print shop and he made these bumpersticker
s that were bright orange and said "I am an Asshole" His thing was to put them across the windshield of those people who take up two parking spaces so their car won't get damaged. Said he used a double batch of the best adhesive they had.

36. "I'd rather be...."
a friend had a few made to order, starting with that phrase, ending with phrases that probably shouldn't appear here.
Suffice it to say they all generally said, roughly, "I'd rather be (performing a sex act that is universally found repugnant.")

46. My mom knew people who did that in New York when I was a kid
Some people got even with people who hogged parking spots by splotching bumperstickers reading "I am a parking pig" right on their driver's side windshields--using tar as adhesive! Now that's what I call the best revenge!

6. But it isn't funny.
Regardless of the obnoxiousness of the freeper's bumber stickers, they are funny. In fact, I read one time that, at bottom, all humor is based on cruelty. And listening to most of it, I would tend to agree.

17. i knew i would get a response like yours.
The problem I have is what causes somebody to want to put it on their vehicle. Not the first topic that pops into my head when I think of pithy political slogans. Of course one shouldn't have children if one can't afford them but some things aren't that cut and dried. :hi:

28. And I'm sure it's meant as a very racist slogan,
completely denying the fact that a lot of white people are on welfare.

So, even though it's not obviously a racist slogan, I think it obviously is. I agree with the root sentiment (as I posted earlier) - but I disagree with throwing it on the bumper becuase it is clearly intended as a (thinly cloaked) racist screed.

And i wonder how many of the people who would actually put that on their cars are beer swilling racist wife-beaters, or suburban soccer-moms with prozac addictions? Not that I'm painting with a very broad brush and casting out blindly racist/classist/groupist remarks. :spank: For shame, Rabrrrrrr. Go to your room.

19. A few years ago, you could get stickers
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 05:22 PM by Buns_of_Fire
that were nothing but a black-and-white drawing of a screw. This was back during the "I (heart) Something-or-other" days (you remember, like "I (heart) New York" or "I (heart) My Chihuahua"). Anyway, the idea was that you would walk up to one of these "heart" bumperstickers and slap the screw directly over the heart, thus changing the meaning considerably. Much hilarity would ensue (unless the owner of the chihuahua -- who might be 6'4", 250 pounds, and a professional kickboxer -- caught you).

(BTW: No, I never did it. I haven't even seen them for years {it was in the old National Lampoon where I saw them advertised}. But if I start seeing "I (heart) President Bush" bumperstickers, I might consider having some printed up...

(On edit: Oops. Didn't see ret5hd's reply above. Mea Culpa.)

27. I wish I could see that fucker's face when he reads the note!
Then why didn't you wait and confront the person instead of leaving a note? What exactly did you accomplish or hope to gain by leaving a note, bug out, then post here in DU to brag about it? If there's a reason or lesson to be learned, I'd be curious to hear about it.

30. What, you ask, did I hope to accomplish?
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 01:27 AM by NightTrain
For far too long, the left has been allowing the loudmouthed, belligerent right to get away with their bullshit. For reasons I'll never understand, during the past 20+ years, the left has chosen not to confront these jerk-offs.

Well, guess what? I'm not like that. I believe in confronting and fighting back against that crap whenever and wherever I find it. And if leaving a note on that moron's windshield caused him even a moment of consternation, then I feel that my actions were fully justifiable.

Meanwhile, your type sits meekly by and allows the right wing to spread all manner of lies about us. If your ilk had been fighting back against these neo-fascists all along, perhaps the American Left wouldn't be as reviled in its own country as it is today!

As for my not confronting the person directly, what the hell was I supposed to do? Sit in that parking lot all afternoon and wait for him to get out of work? Perhaps you have that kind of time to waste, but I don't.

37. if said freeper left a note on your windshield...
would you not consider it harassment, possibly a threat on your being? I understand there's more to fear from gun-toting carnivores than carrot-wielding sloganeers, but actual turnabout would be putting your thoughts in bumper sticker form. And even then you're dealing on a strictly reactionary level ("Two Legs... Good!").

29. Why is it...
That nearly all the responses here applaud or endorse vandalizing someone elses property simply because they disagree with someone elses opinion?
It's troublesome enough as it is, but add the 'hit and run' context to it
and it's even more disturbing.

Nice going, DU. This is a real service to the liberal community.

39. A note is NOT "vandalizing"! Jeeesus. Where'd you think that one up?
Main Entry: van·dal·ism
Pronunciation: 'van-d&l-"i-z&m
Function: noun
Date: 1798
: willful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property

Certainly not destruction. Defacement? Nope, not a note.

Main Entry: de·face
Pronunciation: di-'fAs, dE-
Function: transitive verb
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French desfacier, from Old French, from des- de- + face front, face
Date: 14th century
1 : to mar the external appearance of : injure by effacing significant details <deface an inscription>
2 : IMPAIR
3 obsolete : DESTROY
- de·face·ment /-'fAs-m&nt/ noun
- de·fac·er noun

Even the wildest PC cop couldn't convince me that a note is defacement. Or it somehow marred the external appearance of a vehicle.

"Nice going, DU. This is a real service to the liberal community."

Frankly I'd say riding such a high horse is something of a disservive...
