Word to the wise: Don't fall off ladders
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 04:15 PM by GirlinContempt
at work, on to stacks of paint cans, boxes and tools, and smash your head in to the wall.
It isn't good times.
You wouldn't like it very much.

4. Step ladders might not be so bad
but still, with my vast wealthy of knowledge, I wouldn't recommend it if at all avoidable. :P

7. Ow. No concussion, I hope? I know someone who was pruning a tree.
His ladder fell when he finished cutting the tree limb--because he put his ladder on the wrong side of the cut.

15. It was. He broke everything from his fingers to his shoulder blades and collarbones.
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 07:02 PM by femmedem
He was unable to work for the better part of a year and lost his business.

I'm glad yours wasn't so bad. You'll probably wake up sore tomorrow, though. :(

Edit to say: Oh, I just read downthread that you're still in a lot of pain. I hope it's not worse than you realize. I imagine it's like an auto accident: you might not know how badly you're hurt for a while. I'm surprised your employer didn't send you to the doctor. Do you work under the table?

His leg was very, very seriously injured. Glad yours wasn't as bad of a fall, but still ... :(

13. Did you go to the doc and get checked out?
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 05:51 PM by NC_Nurse
I took care of a patient yesterday who fell off of a ladder. She had broken her pevis in three places and didn't realize it.

They let her drive home and she didn't actually go to the hospital until the next day or something. Now she has a LOT of residual problems as a result.

You might want to go get yoruself checked out, just to be safe.

21. No one was anywhere near
I actually was thinking about that last night.
What if I'd cracked my head open or something?
I could have been laying there, bleeding to death, and no one would have known.

23. I did that once... the infamous "Carrow's paint-can massacre"
I was about 20 feet up a ladder, brush-painting under the eaves of the outside of a restaurant i was helping renovate. The base of the ladder slipped in the gravel it was moored in, and the whole thing slid down the wall, dumping me and the bucket of blood-red paint i was holding right into a strip of holly bushes.

I must have yelled as i was falling, so as i was disentangling myself from those most uncomfortable bushes, a couple of the carpenters and another painter ran around the corner of the building. They all panicked, and started running all over the place to find anything they could use for bandages or tourniquets...

That is, before i stopped them, and showed them the now-empty paint bucket.

27. Fell off one in Norway
I was working on a farm, picking fruit (either apples or pears) on the side of a steep fjord. The top of the ladder just reached the branch. While I was picking the wind blew up, and the tree waved, "whoopeeee!!!" Suddenly the ladder was gone. So after hanging in mid-air momentarily - Bam! I landed on my back. There was one good thing about the wet and cold. I was wearing lots of clothes. No damage. But I landed right on the edge of a terrace wall. A wee bit sides and I would have had a longer cordless bunjy plunge.

So don't fall off ladders.
