2. No.
I got fired by correspondence. Unless you're in physical danger, resign in person. Anything else is rude, at least in my book.

...do not understand that level of subtlety. Do this for yourself, in the method that preserves the most of your humanity and dignity.

With a "have a nice day" smilie, of course.

However you do it, the main thing is to ensure you get your last paycheck.

I've done worse in my younger days, but it's probably not right.

Unless your employers are total assholes and it doesn't hurt you to blow up that bridge. Then anything goes.

We had a guy do that recently at my work. The boss here is a good guy, so I thought it was really lame, especially coming from someone who puffed himself as a being more professional than the rest of us.

26. Only if you want to burn your bridges.
Write them and extremely professional and well written resignation. Just because they might be assholes doesn't mean you have to lower yourself to their standards.

Don't give them ammunition against you. Leave on a positive note.

30. My last job was based at my house. My boss was in Cleveland, OH.
I didn't get to resign in person, but I called him and talked to him about everything before confirming it in an email. That was the way he asked me to do it. If you don't have another choice, call your boss first to give them a heads up. Being surprised by an email is not a good thing.

Because my current job is at a local college, I would talk to my boss in person before hand-delivering a resignation letter to her if I ever decide to leave. It's the professional thing to do, even if bosses aren't acting professional. :)

32. i am STILL in orientation
you know this is aright to work state and 90 days on either side for no reason. i know where you are coming from and if i was in a position of some leadership or managament then i would consider calling. your boss asked you ...had mine asked me i would have been glad to comply.

i am still "shadowing" not even on insurance, and can not even be counted in the patient/staff ration at this point.

People who do not care about other people...at all. People that are mean, for fun.

People who just want to win at all costs. And the ends ALWAYS justifies the means.

And those who who just don't care, period.

But you you know what hon?

We are not like that. And we are not alone.

41. Short Message Service.....the not-quite-what-you'd-expect dept

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20060804/0225256.shtml

Stories about people getting fired via SMS text message are nothing new. We've seen them for years. However, the in the latest such case in the UK, the manager in question has a unique defense for firing a sales assistant at a chain clothing store. You see, it's all cool because it's just "a part of youth culture" to send a text message to a young employee stating: "We've reviewed your sales figures and they're not up to the level we need. As a result we will not require your services any more. Thank you for your time with us." The young woman notes angrily that the company even has a bit of a "double standard," as employees are not allowed to text message in the fact that they're sick if they need a day off. Of course, this manager might want to watch out. Youth culture or not, a bunch of employees fired by text message a few years ago in the UK won compensation for being "cynically manipulated."
