Got a job offer at a Houston school...any advice or any info I should know before I accept?
Edited on Sun Apr-01-07 10:34 PM by kariatari
I'm from Iowa, and I never would have considered it applying for teaching positions in TX, but the staff members I talked to were incredible. Urban school, very diverse, low SES students. The school has made great gains in closing achievement gaps. I'm strongly considering the offer - killer pay too!

Any advice or suggestions about looking for places to live?

2. Maybe you should cross-post this in the Texas forum. They'd
have good ideas about the school system, where to live, etc.

3. You're probably looking at a higher cost of living in Houston
There is also horrible traffic. Incredible heat in the summer. Good thing- say goodbye to winter. That's all I can offer.

6. I grew up in Houston
well, on the outskirts.
Under the city limit sign it should say: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
