Poll question: Americans Aren't Eating Their Vegetables -- are you?
(WebMD) A new report shows Americans are actually getting worse at eating their vegetables.

Oddly enough, I love vegetables. And not petty, solitary leafs on a gigantic pus-burger with a bleached bun either. I mean real vegetables - onions, peppers, spinach, broccoli, clovers, parsley, those green stringy things everybody else hates, mushrooms, bean sprouts... even baby corn, even though that's just a gaudy starch.

And, yes, I did respond to that article as well. Guess which one it is! :7

1. A nurse friend once told me the trick to eating vegetables was...
...getting them back in their wheelchairs afterwards.

I don't get that joke either.

2. I think the joke pertains to paraplegics and some form of *cough* sexy interlude...

4. I'm not a huge vegetable fan...
...but I know I'll die some horrible death if I don't eat them, so I've taken to liquidizing a load of veg every day and drinking them as a "smooothie." It tastes feckin' horrible, but it's over in a couple of seconds and, if I hold my nose, I can pretend it's a milkshake.

7. Have you ever tried V8 (the plain stuff or the stuff with lemon in it?)
Both, I think, are tasty... and the lemon version is almost addicting... the lemon dilutes that veggie taste, so you might dig it...

I avoid fruit smoothies - the fruit with the solid material is what makes it a complex carb. Extract the juice into juice (or even as a smoothie), the less matter that holds in the juice it becomes and therefore becomes a simple carb. Simple carbs are said to be stored by the body as fat. (it's also why I avoid 'slim fast' and the ilk - drinking 22g of sugar per serving does not good at all!)

11. I don't mind V8 too much. It tastes a bit too much of celery for my liking,...

...but otherwise tastes like tomato juice, which is nice enough.

I feel the same way as you do about juices, so I tend to blend them up myself and leave a lot of the pulp in. It's not the same as eating the fruit itself, of course, but, for me, it's a choice between that and no fruit at all. I've recently started taking an interest in what I eat (prompted by my wife who can't believe I've lived this long on what I was eating before), so it's all a huge voyage of exploration for me.

Don't even get me started on what a revelation finally having enough fiber in my diet has been for me. That will just get the thread locked. :)

5. I eat a large salad for lunch everyday.
It's usually close to a pound of veggies and some surimi that I put together at the local grocery store. Yummy!

6. I love veggies
I wouldn't eat meat at all if it wasn't for the fact that my SO would die of shock if there wasn't some on the table.

10. Veggies -- YUM. I can't get enough.
Broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, you name it -- I love it. :9 The only one I'm somewhat ambivalent about is the beet. It needs to be prepared in a very savory way for me to like it; otherwise I find the beet too sweet.

12. I love vegetables.
We have a large salad with our dinner,
every night.

I take baby carrots with me to work and
have them at lunch with a sandwich loaded
with veges.

Congratulations for 55,000---( Thooooouuuuusand, like Charlie O'Donnell on Wheel of Fortune)

14. I eat mine.
I love veggies and have them at almost every meal. In the summer, when the veggies are home grown and freshly picked, I eat veggie only meals about 50% of the time.
