Bad movie props #237: rubber knives
I'm watching a movie that's so cheesey that it's funny on TCM.
"Ambush Bay"

Marines on a Pacific island fighting the 'japs' during WW II.
Two guys are rolling around on the jungle floor trying to cut each other's hearts out and the knife blades are bending back and forth all wibby-wobby.

FAKE!!!

1. When they eat chow in this movie does someone show up with a loaf of French bread?
That has to be my all time favorite movie staple.

3. Don't know, but their baseball caps are definitely non-issue.

4. Ha!
"Munich" and "Borne Supremacy" are two movies that I have seen fairly recently in which you see no one in baseball caps. "Munich" was striking in that that was just not done back then, now everyone does.

6. You mean like whenever someone comes out of the grocery, they always have
a paper grocery bag with a french loaf, and unbagged vegetables sticking out the top?

2. In "The Running Man," one of the high-tech "computers" is this:

A Shure Vocal-Master PA head. Exactly like the one we used in my college band back in the 80s. The twist of lime to this bad-propness is that they didn't even bother to plug in in.

5. Knives and swords
The knife with which the anonymous biker stabs Arnold in the bar early in T2 clearly flexes and compresses against his skin.

And the swords during Inigo and Wesley's epic battle in The Princess Bride whip around like tinfoil antennae, despite the dramatic clanging and clattering of tempered steel.

8. Actually, if you are using a foil, depending on the type they can be
very flexible. Foils aren't meant to stab they are meant to slice tendons.

even when you watch olympic fencers, when the strike home the coup de grace, the foil will arc dramatically.

9. True, but the blades in question clearly aren't foils
When Inigo hands it to Wesley to examine, the blade is heavy and rigit, and additional onscreen evidence supports the claim that the blade isn't as "whippy" as a foil or epee.

That's a good thought, though!
