Is this a good deal?
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 05:40 PM by Coyote_Bandit
I'm pricing heat and air systems. The one I have is old and dying. About 14 years old and has required some minor repairs already. It is a four ton unit. 10 seer and 80% efficiency for the furnace. I'm looking at two systems - both are four ton units.

I'm looking at a Lennox:
Lennox Signature® Collection XC21 Air Conditioner (18 Seer)
Elite® Series G60 Gas Furnace (80% Variable Speed 2 stage)
Lennox Coil
Lennox Air Cleaner
Non-programmable Thermostat
Price quoted for the complete system is about $8,700. There is also a $350 tax credit. Discounted from the regular price of just over $11,000.
Manufacturer warranty is 20 years on heat exchanger; 10 compressor, parts and labor (if monitored).

I'm also looking at a York:
York Affinity CZE048 Air Conditioner (15 Seer)
York 80% Variable Speed 2 Stage Furnace
York Coil
York Air Cleaner
Non-programmable Thermostat
Price quoted for the complete system is about $7,400. Price includes a $600 rebate.
Manufacturer warranty is 20 years on heat exchanger; 10 compressor, parts and labor (if monitored).

There is another more basic Lennox system:
13 seer air conditioner
Gas Furnace 80% Variable Speed 2 stage
Air Cleaner
Non-programmable Thermostat
Price quoted for the complete system is about $6,500.
Manufacturer warranty is 20 years on heat exchanger; 10 compressor, parts and labor (if monitored).

One year no interest no payments financing available for all systems.

I'm leaning toward the high end Lennox system. Is that a good choice or is there some reason why it is being made to appear so attractive?

edit for bad spelling

2. I Know
I happen to know several folks that are looking at getting new systems in the near future because they too have old equipment. We all have sticker shock. You can get equipment that is not name brand cheaper. Even so, it is still much more expensive than I had hoped.

3. right. Plus, unless you're getting a "designer brand", you often do get what you pay for
a cheap one may save you in the short run, then die 2 years later.

4. I use
length of manufacturer warranty as my measure of quality. In cars I use warranty cost.

I guess this is just one of the pleasures of home ownership.....

5. yeah... the "pleasures" - tell me about it
actually, I love it, but I am in the home stretch of a long remodel on an old and cheap fixer-upper and doing a lot of the work myself, so... yeah. It's getting old, although it's nice to see the work when it's done, and I at least have some experience with it, which makes it a bit better as far as time/tools/etc. goes.

But yeah. I think I'm ready for condo living now. lol.
