Calling all straight males!
Now that I've made the title as intriguing and double entre as I can, I have a question. How many straight males are there in America that, like me, don't give a single solitary damn about football? I perpetually feel like the only husband in the country not abandoning my wife for the TV on Sundays. I am so non-football that, I kid you not, I cannot identify when the Superbowl is or what two teams participate. Am I a freak? A stranger in a strange land?

3. Same here. . . . I just know the Superbowl is in winter. . .
and that the Pats won it a year or two ago :).

Other than that, I don't know shit about it.

34. I also stopped watching the majority of Professional Sports, however
I am a huge fan of college sports....primarily Big 12....BB and football. March madness is the greatest sporting event going.

5. OOoooh. Don't let Trumad see this....
There were a plethora of threads like this a couple weeks ago...turned into an "IHATE FOOTBALL" vs. "I LOVE FOOTBALL AND PEOPLE WHO HATE FOOTBALL ARE ABUNCH OF CREEPS" flame war.

For the record, I can't stand sports and find no interest in them at all.

11. Good point.
Plenty of gay men love football. And some of them have significant others who do not. I guess that means that they "abandon" them on Sundays.

8. What do you abandon your wife for?
Not sure what your point is, but a hearty so what from a straight guy who loves football, and so does my significant other! What do you abandon your wife for? Are you a freak? No, of course not. But, we really can't answer until we know your interests. All we know is that football is not one of them. How about them Lions? (Trick question, I know).

....i hate football (all professional sports, really) so i'd never leave my wife for it.

no "kind of" about it! it's full-on-crazy-nail-down-the-
furniture "you know"!

i know nothing about college football. except when in choosing the champion there's math involved.

Huh?
Not sure what you mean, so I'll try to take this sentence by sentence.

I don't abandon my wife for anything, really, other than kayaking. I've never heard of a kayak widow.

I'm not deriding anyone who likes football, but the phrase "football widow" is in the lexicon for a reason, isn't it? So it's a safe statement to imply that lots of women are left to their own devices come Sunday at noon.

And yes, I'm aware that lots of women and gay men like football. Just none of the gay men I know, whereas nearly all the straight men I know live for the game. Hence the origin of my question. Everyone please unbunch thy knickers. It was a question, not a condemnation.

As for the "not alone" votes, whew. I feel less mutant now. Thanks.

29. Just because...
"Kayak widow" isn't a pop phrase, doesn't mean they don't exist. It doesn't matter what the activity in question happens to be, if the result is the same.

36. Like you, I was also born without the football gene AND I kayak.
Also mountian biking, rock climbing, and... I did powerlifting in college. I enjoy solo sports, or anything where you compete with yourself.

I can't stand teams. Someone recently gave me that old standard, "there is no 'I' in team", and I said, "no, but there's a 'U' in fuck off'.

Hehe.

I love football. I love the rivalry between us Minnesota Vikings fans and the Green Bay Packers fans.

I also love hockey, basbeball(my number one sport, go Twins!), and the Olympics.

30. My wife is the big football fanatic. I'm a casual fan.
My dad grew up without a father so he was never indoctrinated into sports, thusly, I wasn't either. What interest I do have I've picked up on my own.

I always had to pretend to be knowledgeable about sports in elementary school.

My wife was the only child so her dad indoctinated her into sports so I play second fiddle when it comes to being a fan of sports in our family.

35. Anecdotal experience.
Lots of gay friends, not watch football. And football is the original Roman, red meat game. And the players naughty bits are less visible because of all the padding. My gay friends prefer baseball uniforms.

I used to watch some 15 years ago but it is pretty much redundant and meaningless since no real resolution is reached. We just keep repeating the same things over and over again. So I have lost interest.

Basketball's even worse, hockey isn't much better.

Baseball's not too bad, but that's because of the tight uniforms.

Soccer/football/rugby rocks.
