Did anyone watch "Wife Swap" on ABC last night
Now normally I don't watch this crap but my mother called me and told me about it. Seems the one family was from my home county of Perry County in rural Pennsylvania. For those of you who watched the show - that was the family that collected & sold deer urine.

And you thought I was joking around with how redneck my home town was

1. Well, there is a market for it.

3. I watched it.
The deer urine thing was a little, um, interesting. I never knew there was a market for that.

4. I'm guessing no one in the Midlo family goes deer-hunting
If they did you'd know what it was for

7. No. We're Bambi lovers here in the Old Dominion.
I did figure out what it was for during the show, but do they sell that stuff in stores? Like Cabelas? I have to admit, Mr. Midlo loves to fish, so we go there a lot, but I've never gone into the hunting section.

It skeeves me out.

8. Hell I've seen it in K-mart
Yes stores do carry it - especially if they want to be a store that caters towards hunters. But some of the stuff sold in mainstream stores is actually artificial deer piss which some hunters believe is not as effective as the real thing.

9. Hunters use it as deer scent -- which I think should be illegal
If you want to hunt, then HUNT. Don't bait.

The DeerPeeMom was quite the shrieker, ala Roseanne Barr. And, although I agree PrincessGirl was tres spoiled, DeerPeeMom didn't spoil her HUSBAND worse??? I could see my mom scraping d starting my dad's car at 3:00 am. Hahahhahhahaha.

10. I know my stepfather doesn't use it
He said it doesn't really make much of a difference with getting a deer so why waste the money.

But it's damn scary that I actually knew what it was and if Princess Mom did one thing right it was to move the pee canning business out of the basement of the house and into it's own room OUTSIDE

11. I knew what it was for, too
I grew up in the wild of South Jersey, remember, with huge amounts of redneck deer hunters in my family. Someone is always getting drunk or falling asleep and falling out of a deerstand.

13. You're really going to be disgusted
It's not bait.

You wear the deer urine like it was cologne, except you wear a hell of a lot of it, to mask your human aroma.

19. I know what they do with it -- it's also used as bait
They put doe-in-heat deer urine around as bait.

14. Then, CSI Miami's episode was all about
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 07:44 PM by Kajsa
a double murder involving a white collar-weekend "warrior"
out on a hunting trip with his buddies and a high priced call girl.

All the pencil pushers had unknowingly smeared themselves with
"bear oil", used as bait in bear hunting.
That's how the one got mauled to death.

Big night for products used as bait in hunting.

The day animals are equally equipped with weapons,
is the day hunting can be called a "sport".

Yes, those bait products should be illegal.

16. Urine is not bait.
It's smeared on the hunter to mask their scent.

My best friend's husband is a hunter. (They get all of their meat from either hunting, fishing or his uncle's farm.) He refuses to use bait-considers it to be wrong-but has no problems w/ covering up his own scent.

18. OK, knowing nothing about hunting, I'm going by the plot.

The "bear oil" was not urine but a mixture of glycerin and scents, such as vanilla.

It was to be smeared on trees to attract the bears.

The fact that it was on the humans was not good.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi_miami/episodes/517/

Horatio wonders why the animal singled out the men to attack. Alexx offers an explanation: She has found vanilla gel on the victim's jacket, the same gel that is used in bear lure. Perhaps the victim was not the hunter, but the bait in a different kind of hunt?

Ryan uses a MINIRAE to check the other hunters, Andy Kelso and Rob Harris, for traces of vanilla. There are slight traces on each of them, enough, he hopes, to allow the Minirae to trace the vanilla to its original location. Delko and Ryan set off into the brush on the trail of the gel. Not far from the scene they come across a building which reads high amounts of vanilla. As they investigate they meet the house's owner, Billy Chadwick. He tells them he makes and sells vanilla bear lure to hunters,

If this info is wrong, Jerry Bruckheimer is gonna pay! ;-)

22. The bear oil might be bait
but deer urine is not.

(I only know that from growing up w/ too many hicks. If I hadn't moved to a hick town as a teenager I'd still be clueless.)

20. It can be used as bait
Some of my relatives use doe-in-heat urine as bait around their deer stands.

23. Now that can be used as bait
but most of the ones I've met who used it were trophy hunters in the first place-they wanted to attrach the biggest rack.

For hunters who actually use the deer (you know what I'm talking about-they eat it, some tan the hide, etc) they don't usually use the doe-in-heat urine, especially since some have been attacked when using it. Most just use the regular urine to cover their own scent.

(A few years back we had a 9-1-1 call from a hunter. He and his friends had come down from the city to hunt. They used the doe urine. It worked but not like they expected-the males fought each other and then attacked the hunters. DNR agent told them they were stupid for using the doe urine since this has happened before.)

12. It is used to cover human scents in hunting
I think. In high school some of the hunter types thought that bringing it to school was really funny.

15. I didn't have a problem w/ them selling deer urine.
There is a market for it. (Proof that I'm also from a redneck town)

I had problems w/ the teenage girl from the other family. 14 is way too old to demand to be treated like a princess-and the mother was crazy.

Neither moms knew how to find a medium ground but I did see the point of making that girl bottle urine to get her cell phone back-make her work at something dirty to understand the value of a dollar.

25. It's collected from deer that are farmed.
Not wild deer.

I would guess they have some sort of trap in the floor of the barn so the urine drains into a container.

themselves while they are hunting in the hopes of attracting that big buck? How aromatic!
