Oh, good lord. The "23 enigma" returns as a movie starring Jim Carrey
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 10:37 AM by swag
William Burroughs (sincerely), Robert Anton Wilson (probably less sincerely), and others went on at length about the 23 Enigma. More here.

There are a number of explanations as to why this alleged preponderance of ominous 23s is bullshit. Of course what's better to base an apocalyptic thriller on than a bullshit hypothesis?

Can you spot the numerological inconsistencies in the trailer? It ain't too hard.

1. My friend with a tattoo of a 23 inside a pentagon is not happy about this movie.
But tough titties on him, my Discordian tat is much cooler.

16. But is it in Greek letters?
Because it should really say "Καλλίστη".

6. Way too easy to spot the inconsistincies...
also way too easy to force a string of digits to add up to 23 (or some other predetermined result) if you pick and choose which particular set of digits are significant (taking each digit in the date of the sinking of the Titanic, for instance--4+1+5+1+9+1+2=23--but 20+1+2=23 for 2012? If it were consistent that zero would be a null).

It fails even as risible supernatural apocalyptic pulp. The last half is like Escape From Witch Mountain or something, only no Keenan Wynn.

12. Thanks for the links!
Interesting stuff... but still, I like silly movies based on bullshit. I don't believe there's anything to it... I just like thrillers & Jim Carrey.

It's a wait for video movie, though, for sure.

25. He's a talented actor...
He just has a tendency to choose shitty roles and work with shitty directors. He was great in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
