'Dog' The Bounty Hunter To Be Extradited To Mexico
<snip>

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) -- A federal court has cleared the way for TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman to be extradited to face charges in Mexico, court officials said.

Norma Jara, a spokeswoman for the second district court in Guadalajara, said the court rejected Chapman's injunction request, ruling there was no reason not to try him with the charge of deprivation of liberty of Mexico.

"We only just heard about the Mexican court's decision to continue with the extradition proceedings, and are still in shock," Chapman and his wife, Beth, said in a statement issued Thursday night in Honolulu.

"Our attorneys have not even been formally informed of the court's decision, as of yet," they said. "We are obviously deeply disappointed and fearful of what will happen, and are currently absorbing the news and discussing our options at this time."

Mexican authorities had already asked for Chapman's extradition from Hawaii.

Chapman's lawyers argued he would not be guaranteed a fair trial in Mexico, Jara said.

The charges against the 53-year-old star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter" stem from his June 2003 capture of convicted rapist Andrew Luster, the Max Factor heir, in Puerto Vallarta, 210 miles west of Guadalajara.

3. Drum, you realize that he's being extradited because he captured a serial rapist, right?
The Mexican gov't refused to capture a RICH serial rapist, who videotaped raping something like 80 women. Dog caught him. I don't like his show either but he did what no one else could or would do.

4. Sorry Haruka...
my response was blurted out as a TV viewer's opinion. Didn't mean to question the legality or morality of what he does.

Sorry to offend.

7. None taken. I hate his show, too.
However, I do think it's ridiculous that the Mexican government wants to throw him in jail so badly for catching a rapist. He broke the law, but lesser of two evils basically.

9. DOG
That is all good that he 'caught' the criminal, but dog the bounty hunter is a vile creature
and a GW Bush lover, and a bible thumper, and a piece of trash..........

11. Yes, on a personal level he is an unappealing person.
I had access to cable TV once and watched a couple of his shows. Pretty bizarre.

10. Yup, pretty much how I see it.
Still, I can appreciate that Mexico does not want its border violated. (I'll let someone else point out the apparent irony of that.)

16. Thank you
for pointing that out.

That piece of trash belongs in jail and I'm glad Dog caught him. He was living right under the noses of the Mexican police.

...episodes and learned that they do a very tough, ugly job with an astounding amount of compassion and professionality.

Most bounty hunters are shit-heel Soldier-of-Fortune wannabe's, based on my reading of various news reports, typically about how they roughed up, captured, or killed the wrong person.

Dog and his wife, while extremely colorful superficially, are genuine people making a living doing a very controversial job and doing it as respectably as it can be done.

Dog has a huge mullet and the look of an aging pro-wrestler, his large-breasted wife is prone to wearing very low-cut shirts which accentuate her breasts even further, as well as her propensity for large coiffures.

They are not who they appear to be after a casual inspection, something which probably aids them in the success they've had.

12. Doesn't matter who he arrested or whether or not we agree with Mexican law
it's arrogant to go into another country, defy their law and then complain about facing the consequences. This kind of shit is why we get called ugly Americans.

14. This is utter bullshit.

I understand that Dog and his clan may not appeal to many here; and their beliefs are certainly not the same as mine. However; they are US citizens who,as someone upthread mentioned; do a job not many others do with a modicum of compassion and civility. He was bringing a serial rapist to justice; a 'rich boy" who thought he could get away with his crimes just because he was rich and good-looking.
We should protect him and prevent this from happening.

I only hope that this will serve to impress upon Dog and his family; as well as many watchers of the show; that GW and his cronies DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY; INCLUDING THOSE THAT SUPPORT HIM.

I'm just sorry he has to learn it this way.

17. I don't like Dog and never will
But this is Mexico's attempt to shift the embarrassment that he made them feel when he did what he did. I don't expect much justice to come out of this. My issues with Dog stem from the fact that he's really exploiting the fact that he arrests small time drug offenders for his own personal gain. He is an example of everything that's wrong with the drug war. He portrays himself as some kind of Jesus-inspired warrior fighting crime and decadence, when all he's doing is propping up a multi-billion dollar war being waged against the poor people of this country.

But those issues are aside from this. He humiliated the Mexican government, and now they're going to make him pay. A truly juvenile act on their part. If they had gone after the serial rapist in the first place with the same vigor they're going after him, none of this would have happened.
